An insiders chat with Charles Cottle-- TOS founder

His book is good although his doodling for dissecting positions still mystifies me.

    LEAPS as financing tool.

Holding BRK. Want 100 deltas of AAPL and don't want to reduce my exposure to BRK.

Can someone explain to me why CZR went up 35% intraday over the NJ news?

Caesars/Harrahs has been itching to get into the online space for a decade.

    IB minimum bandwidth/latency requirements

You're talking about a connection comparable to cellular or satellite, right? It works but you're not going to like it other than as a way to manage orders while away from your "real" connection. It's the latency that's annoying.

    LEAPS as financing tool.

Go easy on me, this is a rookie question. I'm wanting to use LEAPS to get levered exposure to a stock in an account that can't have margin. Asset A trades at 35% implied vol. Do I buy options of sufficient delta to get my target exposure, or do I lever asset B which has no dividend and...

    Buy some AAPL $450?

It's a screaming buy based on valuation. But that doesn't mean it can't get cheaper.

    Complex orders on the rise

A conversion quoted as one order? Buy a call, sell a put, short stock. I'm assuming its the kind of stuff a pit trader could have made a market on in one transaction.

    portfolio planning software/spreadsheet

Isn't this something you can do yourself in Excel? Just find the dollar amount of each position and divide that by the total portfolio worth? Use GoogleDocs or a link to your broker to update the prices in real-time. This one's kind of sloppy. And Google only lets you have 200 quotes or...

is it possible to start own fund these days?

If I could make a near-certain 10% on my net worth with low-vol I could retire right now.

what's the advantage of fx over FX futures?

I'm going to say cash FX is popular due to customizable (small!) position sizing and high leverage compared to CME fx.

Trying to get a snapshot of realtime pricing of 600+ equities

Would this IB snapshot approach be appropriate if you wanted to model a sheet of the Russell 1000 by market cap, but didn't need the quotes on each one to stream? I've had trouble building something like this using all the easy tools due to the 100/200 limits. I'm a non-programmer.

A Fund vs. Your Own Money

I'll bite. Here's a tiny edge that's lasted for decades. Buy 99 shares of a stock involved in a tender offer with a guarantee that all odd lots will be subscribed. Might make $100/deal if you're lucky, but it fits the definition.

is it possible to start own fund these days?

OP, at what level of volatility are your returns? Or maybe just tell us your Sharpe.

I've always thought it would be cool if the holy grail was just...

You're describing long term trend following. It's worked for decades if you have the stomach for the drawdowns and have enough money to do it on a widely diversified pool of assets.

    Betting against Junk Bond ETFs

Short HYG? Or buy long dated out of the money puts on it? Or are you constrained by account type so you need an inverse ETF? I'm also assuming you're betting on the absolute level of junk bond rates and not the spread over treasuries.

    Buy some AAPL $450?

Lot of bruises on my hands from catching falling apples.

What’s an acceptable max DD for a strategy?

I'd set the max DD to something you could sleep with at night and not stop trading the strategy.
