    Who's still around?

You should be looking at the Chicago shops. As long as the account was in your name and is verifiable, you can probably find a few offers if you search. It won't be easy though. The industry is becoming really tough. I posted an article yesterday which brings up valid points about many prop...

this article just popped up in my google news feed:http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/10942491-proprietary-trading/1959802-proprietary-trading-firms-seek-to-diversify-business-models-in-2013 Chicago's formerly most independent proprietary trading firms (Getco, Hard Eight Holdings, Peak6...

    Anyone trade with Nonko Trading?

Check if they have free routes as the routes alone can add .003+ per share to your costs. Ask for their ECN Schedule if you have it. Also ask about customer service (hours of operations and method of contact). I tell you because a lot of firms talk up their customer service but then when you...

How to establish a prop firm

you can't do anything through a broker-dealer except trade. Any algo or other side business has to be conducted separately (only securities transactions can be done through the broker-dealer. I.E. the broker-dealer can not charge someone's account $300 from their capital and pass it on to you)...

How to establish a prop firm

That's correct. If they are marking up the clearing rates from the clearing firm, they must register as a broker-dealer. This is also true if the traders are trading their own funds through the firm and not the firms fund. You would still need to register an LP, an investment adviser, etc...

    prop vs. retail brokers

Don't get me wrong, I agree. for 500k+, you have a lot of options; However, if you're working with 50k, those points are still valid. I'm not sure where the 500k came from. I may have skipped over that but I posted that with the assumption that I don't know how much capital the OP has to invest...

    prop vs. retail brokers

not really sure if this is applicable but the advantages also include short locates, education if that's you're thing, BP, lower clearing rates, darkpools and midpoints, etc. There's an article here that outlines it and a few others like this one floating around -...

    prop vs. retail brokers

not many pay a base and the ones that do don't pay too well. The industry is almost entirely performance-based. That being said, Prop trading is not a secure job. If you need the salary, put up less and put more aside for living expenses. The good thing about prop is you can 10:1 or even 20:1...

    Vtrader Group

Everybody is moving offshore. in late 2011 / early 2012 I posted that this would happen as a result of the regulatory environment. Those who don't believe that's the case will still turn a blind eye. Ultimately, traders get the shit end of the stick because soon well have no choice but to go...

    International Brokers

A heads up to anyone not in the know. There seems to be some issues with this firm. There license has been retracted and some of their traders have been posting (http://www.prop-trading.com/international-brokers-reviews) regarding their capital. Someone has even setup an AOL email account to...

Steps for underqualified traders to find a prop firm

you would have been in a much better position a few years ago when there was more competition. The norm here was $1500 deposit. 30 cents for 1000 shares. free training included. something like 500 bucks for series 56 license. Unfortunately, the industry has been burdened very heavily by...

Capital Traders Group CTG "under direct management of WTS" ??

I called WTS and asked 2 different people over the last few days. The response I got was that the managers from CTG were reassigned to a private fund within WTS and that all the services and educational offerings they had were still available through WTS directly. It almost sounded like a sales...

Capital Traders Group CTG "under direct management of WTS" ??

Of all the firms I've heard of on this board, that group got the highest praise and the best reviews from traders. Maybe the money was no longer there and the group went on to do something else. It would be nice if this was a split and these guys are off starting their own b/d. If we see a new...

Capital Traders Group CTG "under direct management of WTS" ??

WTS is a b/d. My license is registered with them so I would know. That has nothing to do with it. The issue at heart here is if WTS is operating all these branches as marketing fronts in order to create an illusion of competition. For example, you call JC, CTG, Philadelphia Trading, Wall Street...

The changing dynamics of proprietary trading

This is troubling for the industry. If firms need to make profits by their traders competing for internal liquidity and such it really narrows opportunities. I guess the bottom line is the smaller investors are going to be targeted over the next 2 years. Once those opportunities dry up, we'll...

You seem to be working at WTS. Maybe you can clear things up for us? I trade with WTS. Check out their groups like JC, Philly, Etc. - they show WTS logo and contact info. Straight from their website - "JC Trading is a division of WTS Propietary Trading Group LLC. " which indicates WTS own...
