    Autism and Trading

I have a lot of contact with autistic kids at a local clinic. To an autistic, sensory input is a jumbled mess, and they are accustomed to living in an abstract world. Many of these kids, even if they did not have savant skills beforehand, as they recover turn out to be brilliant in areas like...

    1% a day consistently: possible?

Congrats, it sounds like you've done some nice work with your system. I agree that 1% a day is very possible. I evaluate my systems with the big picture in mind. Assuming unlimited capital, how much $$$ / day is the system worth? One of my systems averages two positions, 2.5% per day per...

Ok here is how I plan to trade...looking for constructive criticism

Have you studied how these gapping stocks behave? Gaps are usually caused by earnings or other new information, and how it trades after gapping isn't related to the previous trend. A stock may move to close the gap, or it may break out. There is money to be made if you get on the right side...

    Historical Quotes with MySQL

PRT, MySQL treats every subquery as dependent, so it reevaluates for every row of data. The bug is here: http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=12106 I tried a lot of ways but subqueries just won't work right. Other than that MySQL has been pretty fast and stable.

    Historical Quotes with MySQL

I use MySQL and have separate tables for EOD and tick data. Having separate tables is always going to be much faster. I chose MySQL over MS SQL Server, when after trying to optimize my queries on both, MySQL was about 30% faster. My queries are nothing fancy, along the lines of testing gap %...

    IB relative order

Thanks.... Looks like a relative order is the way to go for good execution and a possible commision savings. The risk being that the market will move away from you, which hasn't been an issue for me because I trade countertrend.

    IB relative order

I use IB relative orders a lot. I use 0.01 offset so it is a limit order that floats inside the bid/ask spread, and I am getting good executions. If I switch to unbundled pricing, is this usually "adding liquidity" and would get a rebate? I asked IB but haven't heard back.

New IB Commissions for High Volume Stock Traders

Anyone? Are there ECN fees if you use SMART routing?

New IB Commissions for High Volume Stock Traders

With unbundled, if you use SMART routing, you don't know what your commision will be, because it depends on where it decides to route your order? (Assuming you are taking away liquidity)

    % profitable days

Thanks guys, it seems often the case in trading, there are a lot of ways to make money in the markets. I am working on a system and it looks like I need to - Look at performance week by week, it is pretty good - Work on diversifying with other strategies / products / timeframes

    % profitable days

To make a living daytrading or scalping, what is a fair expectation for % profitable days. From the Trader P/L thread, it looks like some of you wizards are making money 9/10 days!

Trying to hide my strategy from software vendors

The brokers are probably smart enough to realize that they would go broke peeking at profitable accounts. They don't know if your winning streak is due to a good system with solid risk management, using coolweb's time machine, just making lucky guesses or what.

    how do ECN's work?

Because there are so few traders, the afterhours price jumps usually around a lot even from trade to trade .... so the charts aren't pretty and not so good for technical analysis. I am wondering too - does ECN volume show up on stock charts?

    Short Term Reversal Indicators

Have you tried CCI. When CCI breaks above 100 or below -100, it indicates the trend may be exhausting.

    What do you call yourself?

How about .... "I trade stocks. Like daytrading and swing trading." That way they won't imagine you sit there bug eyed punching red and green buttons all day - but that you also take some time out to do "swing trading", whatever that is.

Scale up my system .... how high?

True. I think I will "probably" be OK trading 3k shares. No idea about 10k. BTW today it has trades in CRM, EAGL, and SFCC.

Scale up my system .... how high?

My first post on ET :D I have an automated system, (though not enough $$$ to trade it yet) and am wondering how it will adapt to real trading. It does daytrades, long and short, only one position at a time. The simulation simply buys at the ask, sells at bid. All stocks trade at least 1...
