    Big time newbie question

Just call your broker for the details, they're the only ones who'll be able to help you.

    Trading in choppy markets.

Wait... it sounds like you want to split the total volume seen on charts into two categories - buying and selling(?). Well, total volume is all there is. Each individual trade is a buy as well as a sell. If someone is buying, then someone is selling to them. So buying and selling volume is...

    Does this make any sense???

Sure. This - the market move in an illogical manner... speaking in the conventional sense. And the DOW being up fifteen percent means one thing, and one thing only - more buying than selling - that's it.

    Need suggestion for new computer

Oh - Either way you'll need a graphics card that supports multiple monitors.

    Need suggestion for new computer

Right, you shouldn't need a new computer just a graphics card that supports more than one monitor. But if you're looking to get a new computer anyway, I would suggest Dell or Gateway because you get to customize it the way you want - everything you need nothing you don't. You have to get a...

    Trading in choppy markets.

BillyG67, Buying resistance and selling support - sounds like some sort of aggressive entry tactic. Buying resistance in an uptrend, selling support in a downtrend. Doing this in anticipation of a breakout or a breakdown you sacrifice clear market direction for a better entry price. See if...

    Keeping it Simple

Exactly. "It never was my thinking that made the big money for me. It always was my sitting. My sitting tight! Men who can both be right and sit tight are uncommon." -Jesse Livermore

    Bankrupcy stocks

Are you looking to go long or short. My broker won't let me short stock under five dollars, and I though this was a NASD rule. IMO, these plays are viable if you're good enough.

    Is THIS finally the BOTTOM???

Hmmm... is this the bottom? You know, I fail to see why this matters. I can see this question having some substance in an investing board, but... I don't know... maybe I'm wrong.

    Keeping it Simple

RS7, I am wondering why you don't like to buy when the stock is at its high of the day? I'm assuming it fits into some overall trading style of yours, so I am just trying to understand what exactly that is. Maybe what really attracts you is a nice risk : reward ratio, as opposed to waiting...

    What are your exit strategies?

BigBoy, This topic is huge, maybe I can get something rolling here. Okay - letting your profits run is true to some degree, but you have to look at the whole picture, you cut something off here... "Let your profits run and cut your losses quickly" There is an idea here, and the...

    Open Break Plays

Dottom, Thanks again. It does sound like Larry has some good ideas. I'll have to check him out sometime. By the way, how do you trade the open? What kind of stratigies do you use?

Brilliant, rs7. Keeping it simple is always popular with the crowd, as are personal tidbits. This should be nice, look forward to it myself.

    Trading in choppy markets.

Afternoon choppiness is common, especially during these low volume summer days. I like to be flat by the time lunch comes around. For example, Monday the market was choppy with slight bias to the downside, so I was short when I was in. Well, come lunch there was a spike upwards, very...

    Open Break Plays

Dottom, Thanks for your post. As for trailing stops vs. profit targets, I usually use a trailing stop until lunch time, which is when I like to be flat. Sometimes I'll use a 1:2 risk:reward for exit if the trade was taken on a five minute break. But to be honest I really don't have a...

    Stops Too Tight?

I disagree with you because it all depends. I used to have my stops way too tight and it killed me. You have to be careful when playing around with stops though... it can be very dangerous either way. Plus, it all has to fit into the big picture; your trading plan/stlye.
