Almost entire fortune vanished into thin air: crypto billionaire loses 15 billion in one day

The funniest part is some of the crypto bros here saying they've been recently short the same stuff they've been pumping for years and now they allegedly made huge returns. At least we could respect someone being wrong and defending their position, but to suddenly become a visionary trader in...

Will a Republicans house kill the IRS bill and help wall st

It can easily be reversed - and it will be. All funding bills (by law) must originate in the House. The House will simply NOT FUND the initiative from here forward and it will die. There are literally hundreds of LAWS passed over the years that politicians bragged about that have never seen a...

    Effect of Elections on Market

The GOP taking the House is pretty much priced in. Even that should stop most of the damage from the fiscal side, but getting the Senate also could create full gridlock - which would be positive for the markets overall. Powell's biggest headwind is not inflation, it's fiscal policy and the...

Economic question- if republicans win the house

By law, any bill that involves spending must originate in the House. The Feds still follow most of the laws most of the time - so who knows. Funding of nearly everything should be controlled by the House as well, so anything they don't like could simply have their money taken anyway in the...

    Trading on expiration day

It's really designed to protect both you and the broker. You and I both know you are going to close them out. But what if you have a family issue or medical emergency or power outage and are off the grid and unable to log in - in that last 24 hours? It happens to all of us little retailers...

Here’s How Much Money You’ve Lost If You Took Matt Damon’s Crypto Advice One Year Ago

I also look to the NBA stars to know who to vote for. You know they always say to leave the important decisions to the professionals!

    Epiphany of Tom Lee's bullishness

Without even watching CNBC much, I can walk by a muted TV - see the "analyst" on the screen - and tell you what they are saying with better than 90% accuracy. There are perma bulls, perma bears, meanderers that never say anything and a bunch that just talk their books every time the camera turns...

Interactive Brokers’ Thomas Peterffy sees the S&P 500 dropping nearly 20% from here

I believe you are correct. I also like to remind people that Peterffy didn't make his fortune predicting the direction of the market. He made it by giving all of us a tool and charging us to try and predict the direction of the market every hour of every day.

He was running a fund at one point and had significant positions in some small float companies - to the point where he was required to make SEC filings noting the size range of his holdings. And posting here with folks knowing who he was. There are lots of rules about what you can say and when...

What Next? A rainbow(not_black) swan for a long term vision

Is it any cleaner to have Venezuela or the Saudis drill for oil and ship it to us? I feel like if we are drilling at home, the process would be more controllable - not to mention giving back tens of thousands of US jobs. The E15 scam was the winner of the year. Any Republican President would...

Market completely, udderly collapses, and VIX up... 0.16%?!

What Next? A rainbow(not_black) swan for a long term vision

Oh yeah, the market...sorry for going down the rabbit hole. :) I don't think the climate change stuff matters in a material way in terms of a market rebound. At the end of the day companies have to make money to continue to exist. Their profitability is a direct metric in terms of the value...

What Next? A rainbow(not_black) swan for a long term vision

It's a beautiful thing when one party can blame the other for bad weather. Remember back when it was "global warming", but a bunch of scientists reported that the planet wasn't actually getting warmer, so we had to rename the boogeyman. In the 70's we were headed into an ice age as widely...

Where do Economic Reports first hit?

It's within seconds on the Bloomberg Terminal. They prep the release and then post it at 8:30 sharp. That's why you see the market moving before Santelli or Leisman can say the numbers. And they all dump at once, while he has to read them one at a time. Sometimes the headline number is good...

Is the answer right now to be.... selling puts???

Spreads are very different if you have a directional view. Versus naked put selling? C'mon man. Even in an up market with a VIX below 20 and everything is super calm, who's to say you don't wake up and Putin nuked somebody? I wouldn't say the same about naked calls as the good news can only...

Those ATM puts that could have been sold for $53 an hour ago... can be repurchased for $124 right now.

Is the answer right now to be.... selling puts???

You ever hear the expression "picking up nickels in front of a steamroller"? For years everything is wonderful and then just one time you trip and fall. I don't know where you are reading that the long term return of put selling beats all other option strategies, but I don't believe that to be...

Is the answer right now to be.... selling puts???

Selling puts is never a good idea. Those premiums are fat for a reason. A friend of mine had the same thought you did in 2008. He sold an ATM put with 2 days to expiry for 68. A day later he had to buy it back for 250. We still laugh about that.

I was buddies with Harris (and Wes) back in the day. They both had a small amount of money with me before the 2008 downdraft and we kept in touch for a while over the years. I haven't had any contact with him since he was in Mongolia. The guy is absolutely amazing. He won some of the...
