    Does IB hunt stops?

I am a futures trader, not affiliated to any brokerage. After many years of trading and general observation I can say that it always appears to me that brokers go after the stops just to stop me out. But the reality does not seem to be. I have read many books on trading. They all pretty...

I want to reduce my commissions!

Hello Bone, Do you mind telling me which broker might give $1.10 round trip for member commissions, because i have checked around. The member rate of Nymex exchange fee for CL per side is 0.70 + 4 C in NFA fee. That by itself comes to $1.48 per round turn. Am I missing something? Thanks.

Why should anyone want to file tax as a "Trader" Vs. individual? Advantages / disadva

PROMAGMA, thanks. This is an excellent link. Since i started this link I have done quite a bit of reading. Most of the people who have posted in this link, i am sorry to say, are writing based on their feelings and not facts. Thanks though for participating. The link by promagma really...

I want to reduce my commissions!

Thanks Bones. Just one thing I came across in my reading. From you last post, it sound like you may be itemizing your trading expenses. As a "Trader" you can take the expenses on Schedule C (business form) even though the capital gains are filed on the Schedule D or form 6781. Thanks.

I want to reduce my commissions!

Thank you JEB9999. As you can guess, i have been doing some reading on this. Directly from IRS.GOV, Topic 429: "Gains and losses from selling securities from being a trader are not subject to self-employment tax". Only difference is: if you opt to "Mark to market" (which is applicable...

I want to reduce my commissions!

I have discussed it with IB in past, they tell me they do not negotiate. "We have people who generate lot more in commissions that you do" that's what they told me. Yes, i am looking into other brokers. But they all are about the same unless I go the "membership route". I have discussed the...

I want to reduce my commissions!

Thank you bone. Yes, I was looking at the CME site on lease etc. One question: The membership alone will give the cheaper rates, then why lease a seat also? In order to lease the seat, you have to first be a member anyway. I was also reading at traderstatus.com about why file tax return...

Why should anyone want to file tax as a "Trader" Vs. individual? Advantages / disadva

I came across a CPA's web site Traderstatus.com. It really has lengthy articles on how to claim "trader status". My understanding of the subject is: as a trader one can deduct all the expenses that you may not be able to deduct as individual, can contribute to pension plan. That's it. But you...

I want to reduce my commissions!

Thank you Bones and TW. Bones, can you please give more info on Leasing. How, where to find one, is the lasing price same with every seller/lessor. TW, do you also lease one? The points you have made are perhaps all true. As a professional trader, is all profit then considered "ordinary...

A Classic ET post from pa(b)st Prime

Thanks crude man. You are right, this needs to be read and read again. So, I have printed it and put it on my board next to me. I have thought about all the points you have made before and try to keep working on them. About Commissions: You are right. Big chunk of profits goes in...

List of inversely and directly related futures markets

What time frame is your trading? Day trade, position or swing etc? For day trading, pick one instrument with good intraday range and just trade that. Lot easier than running after several and miss them all.

    HuggieBear's Thread of Public Shame

I just posted a thread inviting assistance in "how to reduce commissions". Then came across this thread. I see you also paid a lot of commissions. Any thoughts on how to cut futures commissions. I found Zumo and light speed, two brokers who charge less but their platform is not to my liking...

I want to reduce my commissions!

I just got done with my accounting. In 2010 I paid almost $50,000 in commissions to IB trading oil futures. Any one has any suggestions how i can reduce my cost of commissions? I do like the TWS, the way I am able to easily create and modify orders right on one line. Is there another...

    Lowest futures commissions?

I do more than 500 contracts of oil futures a day at IB. That is a lot of commission money. Lately I have been thinking, may be i can save some of it as profit. I am happy with IB, like their TWS, data feed and overall service (although occasionally they have been less than helpful). So if...

IB TWS Build 905 - Does anyone has the intaller .exe?

BOB111: do you have any version of tws40_install.exe that is about two years old. I would appreciate getting that. If you can email me at unn@netzero please. I had been using a build from 8/2008 and had worked fine for me untill i asked IB a question and they told me "we don't support it". So...
