IB TWS Phone Apps - where do they stand?

I have bbTWS on my BlackBerry. The charts are "line" type only, no candlesticks. Futures and stock charts only show daily session, forex charts cover 24 hours (the start is on Sunday at 17:15 ET). Options quotes and charts are available as long as you enter symbols manually, there are no option...

$25,000 minimum for daytrading needs to be changed

For anyone who doesn't want to trade futures, opening an account outside the US and growing it to 25k seems to be logical alternative for now. There is no PDT rule in Canada as long as you use a Canadian headquartered broker (IB-Canada still enforces PDT). People up here are flipping US...

Disable IB TWS Auto Log Off timer

As far as I remember, if you login to the Gateway instead of TWS, there is no logoff timer. The gateway is leaner than TWS and has lower memory leaks, logging off and rebooting PC once a week is usually sufficient to restore the memory. But you would obviously need to use a third party front...

What is the cheapest commissions in Canada

Check Virtual Brokers. They have lower account minimum to get flat rate right away (it's 50k with both Scotia iTrade and TD Waterhouse). There is always QuesTrade, with no account minimums, but read different user forums before you jump in, customer satisfaction with them is reported all over...

Advice from full-time traders on charting software/broker combinations

Those, especially Blomberg, are for institutional traders and might cost $1000+ per month. For starter, IB feed is sufficient, plus SierraChart or NinjaTrader for charting. I don't know MultiCharts mentioned before, check them out too. Both Sierra and Ninja allow connecting to variety of data...

Advice from full-time traders on charting software/broker combinations

About $600 will do to get the data, and you will need to top it up from time to time: http://ibkb.interactivebrokers.com/node/314 Remember however, that those rules are intended for customers who have done some trading in the past and either experienced losses or withdrew funds for other...

Can Canadians open accounts at US retail firms?

You need to be creative answering all those questions about "trading experience", your "liquid assets excluding home equity", etc. Brokers (at least in Canada) have to include all this BS on their forms to satisfy regulatory requirements, but they never verify any of this stuff. So enter your...

IB: can't modify child orders in BookTrader

In the latest versions of TWS there is a new setting in BookTrader called "Apply offset to parent trade price": http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7518/01212011155731.png However, if you turn this feature on (in a trading button or a hotkey), change some other settings, and then enter an...

IB and Thinkorswim chart loading speed

Well, if you really take the data under the microscope, you can find some inaccuracies in one minute data, especially in very fast markets. With 100 ms snapshot there is 600 prints in one minute period, so most of the time H/L will be accurate, and occasionally it might be off by one tick. IB...

IB and Thinkorswim chart loading speed

I have never used Ninja, I don't know how it handles the data. I use SierraChart, it stores all the data on the hard drive. Once the data is on the hard drive any chart will open instantly, including daily (eod) charts constructed from one minute data and going years back, or a tick chart going...

IB and Thinkorswim chart loading speed

I have mentioned eSignal because it's popular and widely advertised. Personally, I haven't used it for a long time. I actually use IB data but only for a few futures symbols and only for time based charts (1 minute, etc). IB's data is not tick-by-tick but 100 millisecond snapshot so it's not...

IB and Thinkorswim chart loading speed

IB feed is ok only if you trade the same symbols all the time, like when you trade futures. If you trade stocks and need to load lots of different symbols then the only fool proof solution is to get a dedicated feed for Ninja, like DTN IQFeed or eSignal. IB feed is optimized for maximum...

    IB TWS: slow!, overloaded?

Forget about charts, Risk Navigator, and other fancy staff and just use TWS as a trading platform. Remember that it's Java based and Java is a memory and resource hog. Here is my setup: 1) Main Trading Window: with dedicated tab w/o any quotes, this is the tab open by default. The symbols on...

    IB Margin Violation Warning(Excess Liquidity??

You were just lucky at the time of purchase that your order went through. Usually when the account drops even 1 cent below 2k all orders are rejected, even for a stock or option that doesn't require any margin.

    IB Midnight Disconnect

Same here. Can you provide the link with exact hours. And keep in mind that neither Hong Kong nor Japan have DST, so the reset would start at 6:30 pm EDT in the summer.

IB - Booktrader 906 no more single click!

Ninja: yes. IB and others: in the courts or on TT's "to-do" list. Front end providers from outside US: no (TT lawyers apparently can't figure out what to do with those).

IB - Booktrader 906 no more single click!

What IB calls BookTrader is commonly called by others as DOM (Depth Of Market) order entry. From what I understand, TT actually holds the patent for the DOM itself, but the wording of the patent stipulates that the order must be transmitted by a single mouse click or keyboard shortcut. So if you...

IB - Booktrader 906 no more single click!

It's all explained on the first several pages of this thread. Some companies actually pay them royalties, Ninja Trader is an example.

IB - Booktrader 906 no more single click!

The only advantage of having the thread so messed up is that the lawyers from TT won't figure out which pop-up killer is where and how they work. This way they won't have the ammunition to force IB to change title bars, mouse position, etc. to make our life more difficult.

IB - Booktrader 906 no more single click!

IB Controller is completely different. It controls TWS, including logon. You can find more info in post from p.31, dated 11-16-10 at 12:32 PM, and on subsequent pages.
