So we've had a bad GDP number and spike in inventory, and CL is still around 97.50. Good analysis.

Why did CL have normal volume and range on Columbus Day and Veteran's Day, but not on MLK Day? Is there any known reason for the distinction? Are all of the CL traders at the inauguration?

Best hours to trade CL/Most active time frame

Volume is not a bad way to look at it, but if you are looking at "most active" I am going to assume that you are looking for the most price movement. If your software will show the Average True Range indicator, you will immediately see that every day, the ATR of the CL front month spikes...

By when? ATR during RTH over last ten days is 1.03, with a standard deviation of .18. I think that we touch 96.15 today, but nowhere near 97.

We just have not seen that kind of move for a while. Last ten days average range of CL has been about 1.20, with a .48 standard deviation. To get to 90, we would have to have a true range today of at least $2.30. Last time we had that was November 20. Eventually we will break out in...

It looks like the trend line you drew was decisively broken this morning. (Thanks for the heads up on this line.) Maybe that will snap CL out of its narrow trading range.

I'm guessing the market's expectations about QE4 substantially outweigh concerns about inventory build up.

It seems that CL is moving in tandem with the eur/usd. The U.S. equity markets seems to have turned up. Does CL normally track the eur/usd more closely than the S&P 500 or Nasdaq 100?
