Where do I report gains/losses on my options trades?

So I did a handful of options trades over the course of 2007 for hedging purposes. I primarily trade equities, so all of my trades have been reported on a 4797. Do I just lump my options trades there as well? I'm a US citizen and I have not elected MTM. I'm just confused because my broker...

    IB reasures customers

I'd probably be more worried about Etrade, whose stock went from 23 to 3 in eight months, and who's built up a subprime business.

    IB reasures customers

I was a little worried as well, so yesterday I submitted a withdrawl request on the order of mid 6 figures, just so that I could have some cash at hand should IB run into trouble. As of this morning it looks like it went through (i.e., the funds are deducted from my IB balance and appear as...

    BSC trading at >$3?

A pundit on CNBC just said the same thing. Apparently BSC is using this window to shop itself around for a better deal. Unfortunately I don't think the fed will guarantee the assets unless the buyer is a big capitalized IB.

    BSC trading at >$3?

Do shareholders even have a choice at this point?

    BSC trading at >$3?

That would be a bet that JPM shares would increase by 50%. Pretty damn optimistic if you ask me. I buy the short covering argument more, though it still looks like a short opportunity to me.

Any reason to worry about our own broker?

I thought about putting a withdrawl request for 10% of my account, but all that would happen is the money would be transferred to my checking account at Wells Fargo. I'm not sure that's necessarily a better situation unless I then withdraw the money and buy gold.

    BSC trading at >$3?

Why wouldn't people be shorting this stock like crazy (IB appears to have shares available)? I don't understand why it would be trading so far above the $2 that JPM is buying it for. Any thoughts?

Any reason to worry about our own broker?

I think the difference is that BSC actually made bets on the market with their own capital as well as with their wealth management clientelle capital. Whereas, I hope, IB is merely a custodian of client funds with no ability to actually trade. I'm hoping that IB doesn't have a proprietary...

Any reason to worry about our own broker?

I trade with IB, and although I know (or at least think I know) that IB isn't running any hedge funds with levered exposure to subprime debt and that customer accounts are insured by Lloyds of London, is there any reason whatsoever that I should be worried about my brokerage account there? Is...

    Looking for New Systems

No offense, but starting a thread like that will likely result in ZERO serious leads. No background, no idea who you are (Who the hell is "We" anyway?). Sounds like phishing, and you'll probably end up with shills, which is what you deserve with a post like that. If you're at all serious, you...

Seeking reputable reliable prop firm for new 2.8 mill usd fund account.

What advantages are there to going with UBS as compared to just staying with IB with an account of a couple mil?

    Futures also have time-decay, right?

I just realized the fallacy of this strategy -- taxes. Buying and holding the SPYs is much more tax efficient than rolling ES futures every 3 months. It would only work if you could do it in a tax-deferred account. Question is, can you buy futures in a retirement account, since it's...

    Futures also have time-decay, right?

I'm assuming that it's the 4:15pm EST close, though I'm not certain. Also, for the 13 days from 2/5/08 thru 2/22/08 the premium of the Jun 08 over the Mar 08 is within a narrow range of 2.25 to 2.75 pts, so I don't think that it's an anomaly where the ES made a huge move right after the close...

    Futures also have time-decay, right?

So I found this old thread because I'd been thinking that, as Poole stated, with little to no time decay you could beat the market by buying a couple of ES contracts to match your account size and then use the remainder to invest in safe fixed income assets (e.g., I don' t know how "safe" it is...

    Zacks Backtesting Yields Over %50

I agree with a previous poster who said you need to track the screens realtime. That's the only way you know if the lists that Zacks spits out are aligned with the backtesting. One specific problem I found with Zacks data was with earnings surprises. I had a long strategy that looked at the...

    10% heralded as good trader??

Plus I think there are a lot of traders out there who only maintain a certain amount of money in their brokerage account and transfer the excess to MFs or other endeavors. If you make a 400% return every year trading futures on a $25k account but you don't let the account compound, then stating...
