Using option smile to trade underlying

It's my understanding that the smile (vol skew) came about after 1987, when the MMs got their head handed to them. Since then "THEY" have skewed us!

Goldman Sachs says nobody is trading, inactive trading environment is "abnormal".

One idea that could help is to cut the salaries of the big corporate guns to more normal levels and stop the buying back of shares that some say funds their option programs. "Low interest rates and the Federal Reserve’s program of quantitative easing have resulted in reduced volatility, Cohn...

Goldman Sachs says nobody is trading, inactive trading environment is "abnormal".

+1 Didn't someone say years ago on ET, that the strip mining of the trading seas would lead to low volatility and low volume and that eventually even the whales would die? BTW, I am still trading (and even made a new equity high this month ) but there is only so much I can do on my own.

I called them scum because they were

".... And the benefit to you is the lowest spreads in history ... " I would say this is not factual talking about the bad or front-running HFT only because spread is liquidity and volume dependent. Ten years ago, I could fill thousands of shares at a lower slippage than I can today. Spread is...

    Becoming a market maker

http://arlingtonhall.com/i-joined-the-wrong-mob ".... Around the time of his deportation to Italy, mobster Lucky Luciano granted an interview in which he described a visit to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. After he visited the floor of the NYSE someone explained to him the role of...

Could profitable trading cease to exist?

No I don't worry. Better to spend time on the problem than worry than have two problems. I don't worry about death or taxes either. I guess it could happen but I think it is unlikely. Many people I know have been forced to quit yet I still know a few that soldier on. There are so many methods...

With Central Banks now openly buying stocks, how can the Bull end?

I often wonder whether the FED uses HFT (indirectly) in their trades. After all, it would seem that they have the ultimate information.

Number of New York traders at all time low

Others have noted that "looser" seems to be a big challenge on this board, especially since it is used so much!

Number of New York traders at all time low

+1, although some trade simply for the joy of trading.

Number of New York traders at all time low

++++1 Trade long enough and it WILL happen to you too. Why do you think that humility is associated with so many great traders? Is it because they come to understand how narrow and transient is the thread that traders rely on? ET is like a big game of liar's poker, yet those who really trade...

Do Option Sellers Have a Trading Edge?

In particular the data that supports your comment that "Full reserve banking is incompatible with free mkt capitalism." I presume you have some basis for that beyond just your opinion and I would like to research it further.

    Option Market Maker Questions

"Price action is the only truth": Price action is dependent on time frame traded so there are other truths in the market IMO. "The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent." - "I work for a Government I despise for ends I think criminal." - "But this long run is a...

What does the new society organizing pattern for the world look like?

In Canada, three senators were ousted for over-billing expenses and had to pay back what they owed. What was most interesting was all the support they got from their left behind colleagues. All continue to protest their innocence. Opposition parties tried to scandalize it against the party in...

CNBC: The end of trading/banking(high finance).

You can only scam patsies if they haven't yet caught on to the game. With the enlightening media market coverage, the media has made a bad situation ( HFT) worse yet IMO.

The holy grail has been found

Since in my experience only 3% of those predictions on ET are right, where have the missing 27%- gone to. Why it's the dark matter of the ET universe!!!

    Are bonds in a bubble?

I've heard that sanctions have attacked profits in some American companies. Also that Belgium is buying US treasuries like no tomorrow. So my guess is that some really really bad news is coming out of Europe.

    Are bonds in a bubble?

Could deflation signs on the horizon be a nasty surprise for the FED and cause the TNX to plunge? Oh the humanity! (Just an opinion!)
