    Swingtrading Versus Daytrading Debate

what about the old adage "cut your losses short, let your winners run" ? That is an old saying that rings true for most people. If you are an absolute purist at daytrading, then your rules will not allow you to do that. You will be closing winning trades at the end of the day just because it is...

mike, there are americans that are mystified by the current debt levels as well. What I am thinking about mostly is will we simply inflate our way out of it or not?

    Swing/Position Trades

good job closing that QLGC short on friday. If it closes above 40 today it could make quite a bull run. Also, check out EMC , could be an upside breakout.

    trading movies

there is one from about 10 yrs ago with rebecca demourney ( sp ?) about institutional currency and bond traders. I think it was called "traders" or "dealers". Haven't seen it around, not even at blockbuster. I didn't buy it at the time because it was all over cable.

If you are the owner of either cash or securities, or if you have debt of any kind, or if you work for a living, this issue will effect your life.

    crash

I think 87 was like a 30% drop in the dow in one day, so that would be over 2,000 pts in one day! The problem with that is the fear it would cause in the general public, which would then kill the economy for a long time. We would all be talking about the Depre........I won't say it.

    Swingtrading Versus Daytrading Debate

I try to make my hope and fear backwards from how most people have it naturally. Most people hope that a losing position will get better and fear that a winner will go against them. This is true regardless of time frame or strategy. I just bought a book called "the day traders manual" by Eng...

    SPX at Critical point

that's a good point about the shareholder turnover and the time period. There is considerable reason to doubt that chart patterns over time frames like 5 years have any validity. Elliot wave has the same problem.

    Swingtrading Versus Daytrading Debate

The average daytrader is sort of like the average actor. The average actor is a waiter, but they've got potential ! : )

Experinced traders only please ,Profit goals vs. buying power

Someone else brought this up, but how much you can afford to lose on a given day is really more important. The potential for loss is much more under your control and predictable than potential for gain. Theoretically, whenever you buy a stock you have potential for infinite gain, but who the...

Is this big news or a non event ?

it was down on friday, maybe somebody knew what was up. If it can keep trading above the 200 day MA then it still looks good as an IRA type investment.

Interesting signs of a real bottom in the bear market

The Bear market will finally end after: -the indexes have been "rebalanced" to the max and the listing requirements are in full force again. The worst stocks have to be allowed to fall into oblivion. Out of the indexes, out of the mutual funds. -the last of the big accounting scandals...

    Sorry for nonprofessional question ...

There is relative strength vs. an index, usually the S&P 500. The relative strength of the index is set to 100 or 1, depending on the software you use, so that it is the standard by which your stock is being judged. If your stocks' relative strength number is above that then it is stronger than...

When a MM sells at an inferior price

yet another reason not to mess with those illiquid stocks. That is truly an insiders game. Usually there is one market maker "the axe" who really can control the price on a short term basis. It amounts to legal stock manipulation and if you don't know the inside story then you are the sucker at...

    swing/position help/suggestions please

I would keep risk on options to 2% and risk on stocks to 10% max. If you have multiple positions at the same time then you need to make sure they aren't all dependent upon the same thing ( like all bullish on telecom stocks for example ).
