    IB Margin Rates Still Raised

I was also thinking that the thread was talking about the margin rate itself--not the intraday or overnight margin requirements. Is IB's margin rate go supposed to go down anytime soon?

can't figure this out on IB

z32000, you actually cannot do it with IB's built-in orders. IB's bracket order will not automatically calculate your bracket order targets automatically based on the actual executed price. However, this feature was requested and apparently approved last year.

    IB auto liquidation

QuantPlus, I also experienced auto-liquidation once after hours --many months ago. I called and let IB CSR know about it. IB phone CSR understood the issue and mentioned that the developer would be notified about it. May be it is fixed now.

TD Ameritrade and E-Trade discuss merger

E-trade is one of the worst--may be slightly above TradeKing overall. Ameritrade is still one of better brokerage firms. I hope they do not merge. Or, if they do merge, the merged company do not keep Etrade management style. There are a few reasons E-trade seems to have 4+ million...

    Interest on short positions

TM_Direct, IB pays you on the proceeds generated by short sales only after the 1st $100,000. IB is not the only one that pays you on the proceeds generated by short sales.

    Cheapest Options Commissions?

    TOM134, Just2trade's option commission is actually 65c/contract--not 75c.

    What is IB's Margin Rate?

harry11, suppose broker-A takes away $100 everyday for 30 days as margin charges for long positions from your account. On the other hand, suppose broker-B takes away $3000 on the 30th day as margin charges for long positions from your account. They both may take away the same amount of money...

When can IB stock be sold short?

Do not know whether you should or should not short IBKR, but some brokerage firms choose to impose some extra restrictions in shorting their stocks. If you want to short something that is not available to you with one brokerage--but easily available with others, consider it as that brokerage...

    What is IB's Margin Rate?

qll, for the retail brokerage firms who offer per share pricing, as far as I now, IB has the lowest margin rates for the long positions. Just2trade margin rate can be as low as IB's--if not lower at times--because it claims to match margin rates provided you send them the last 2 monthly...

    What is IB's Margin Rate?

qll, IB's margin rates are clearly defined in its website. What is the specific question that you have in mind? (Just2trade matches any margin rates that you are currently getting.)

    What is IB's Margin Rate?

JackR, Credit balance generated through short sales should not be considered as fictitious. IB pays for credit balances from the short sales when it is over $100k.

SEC approval on allowing short sales on a declining market

Hmm... Scottrade/TradeKing type of brokers will now have less excuses in explaining to their clients why their short sale orders have bad fills. I hope they do not come up with an excuse like: "We (and our buddies) are still 'protecting' our customers by following uptick rules." :)

    apple sell off

The stock actually did not go down on both the days at a stretch. Market was down yesterday, but AAPL was up. May be that was what OP was trying to say.

SEC approval on allowing short sales on a declining market

Short sales on a declining (stock) market have been allowed for stocks on the SHO list for a few years. For other stocks, when will IB and other brokerage firms allow their clients to short sale by removing "tick" test from their programs?
