    ES vs Equities Swing Trading?

Im guessing you are trading a small account. If that is indeed the case, i would recommend you buy an index ETF and/or options because you will be forced to use leverage if you play the ES with a small account which will amplify the effect of volatility

We Now Know What Happened At 6:12 AM This Morning

This is hilarious.... I'm not saying that these events weren't spoofing... but "the price moved really really fast" is not enough to draw the conclusion "manipulator busted" Is it not possible that someone sent a large legit order... and a bunch of legit algorithms overreacted?

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

I respect your opinion on all of this, but what is the difference in buying $100k worth of a security that has a 5% average daily volatility on no leverage and buying $100k of security that has 0.5% volatility at 10x leverage? The way I see it, you are putting ~$5k 1 Sigma at risk either way...

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

That is an obvious statement. Just as my statement that you have to take on risk to make money is. Does anyone here trade futures or currency without the use of leverage?

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

I should clarify... I'm not advocating using leverage to gamble...I'm suggesting using leverage to achieve the exposure you desire in less volatile contracts

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

I absolutely agree with you. But you have to have exposure to risk to make money. Sometimes leverage is the only way to increase exposure enough to achieve reasonable returns. Especially in forex and futures

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

So for every CL contract traded, one should have ~$45k to avoid being greedy? It depends on an individuals trading style...but in my opinion, if your are trading intraday, you'd be crazy not to lever up.

Does it make sense to raise leverage if a trading strategy is low volatility?

Because the THEORETICAL probability of ruin is kept the same by increasing the leverage.

Tax Rate for Hedge Fund Managers

I would guess that taxes on fees has to be at the ordinary income rate. I suspect many of them also invest in their funds, which is why a significant portion of there earnings are taxed at the capital gains rate.
