How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

You raise good points. I really am not sure about target profits. Before my strategy was basically fuzzy logic, along the lines of "price is going down... buy more. Now price has come back up and I have a big position. Sell." But I don't like non-specific stuff like that. I guess I...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

Good question. To prevent loss. If I invest 100% of capital now, like you suggest, if the market goes against me, then I am screwed, with possibly irrecoverable losses.

    noob question

That picture was asking about the March 30th expiration date. That's why it was circled. Another poster gave an example of multiple options with the same strike price.

    noob question

How can you tell which ones are weekly? Also, why does it say they expire on March 30th? I thought it was 3rd Friday of the month.

    noob question

So I'm looking at QQQQ and SPY option chains in yahoo finance. Why are there multiple prices for options at the same price? For example, for QQQQ Call options there are three rows with a $58 March 11 strike prices, which have different prices. Why? Aren't they the same? Why would anyone...

Where can I get an options demo account?

Preferably one with the cool graphs that show percentages and stuff. I have some ideas I want to try but they're probably not going to work out and I'd rather learn that with pretend money.

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

I've never met anyone who is consistently profitable in casinos (with the possible exception of poker players but that's not really a "casino game" in the traditional sense of the word). Suddenly all of your posts in this thread make sense. That's the worst analogy I've heard all day. But...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

I already said it doesn't matter, because I cannot predict it. It's probably not entirely random. "profitable indicator" = an indicator where following its buy and sell signals leads to an increase in account equity over a long period of time. No cherry picking results the way indicator...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

@masterjaz: thanks, I get it now. So you'll be flat as long as the market rallies without dropping at least 2% (or whatever interval you're using).

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

Look, the market may be random, or it may be predictable. My point is that regardless, I cannot predict it. So whether or not is is predictable is irrelevent to me. I'm sure no one has a consistently profitable indicator-based system. Especially not with the commercially available ones...

I may be falling asleep, but can you please rephrase that?

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

What are you talking about and why did your space bar get replaced with periods? What point are you even trying to make? I'm sort of confused here. I stopped day trading when I went through a mentally tough period. I was in no mood to be concentrating on anything. I know you don't...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

I randomly picked those SPY numbers, that wasn't based on math or anything. TBH if the market tanked I would probably use the weighted ETFs again.

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

"huge" is relative to my account size. When I had around 3,000 shares of DDM with an average price of $27, I considered that to be "huge." I was trying to be more conservative by suggesting to do this with SPY rather than the weighted index ETFs.

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

While I believe your intentions with that post are good, it sounds very similiar to what the "gurus" say. How many times has [insert famous trading "guru" whose system has been proven to be unprofitable again and again, whether we're talking about someone on ET (you know who they are) or on...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

lol. No it won't, if you position your entires correctly. How do all but 2 of the people in this thread not understand that??? If you're martingaling within a tight enough range and/or using margin, then yes, you have to use hard stops to occasionally prevent catastrophic loss. If...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

In the event the market makes a big move down you would make a lot of money (when it recovers). So maybe $50k per year is out, but extend this over 20-25 years. If you double your money (or more) a few times, it because a decent longterm strategy. I more than doubled my account size from the...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

I have no idea what is more likely to happen. Price is random for the most part. Things like S/R work just as often as they don't, at least in my experience. No edge there. Yes. I don't even want to bring indicators into this conversation because there are entire other forums dedicated...

How much money would you need to Martingale your way to profits?

Let's say SPY is currently at 130. Assume an account of $200k. 130 buy $1k 115 buy $2k 100 buy $4k 85 buy $8k 70 buy $16k 55 buy $32k 40 buy $64k Total spent is $127k. I just randomly picked those numbers. I'd say the chances of SPY hitting 40 are quite low, so you could...
