I sometimes examine trading ideas with Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Excel has lots of math functions such as average, standard deviation, maximum, minimum and plots graphs too. Trading simulation software might seem expensive but it's probably cheaper than a few mistakes.

You might consider some introductory computer programming online college type courses. You might search microsoft.com for a free c#, c++ or F# compiler and just start writing little programs and learning. I notice programming tutorials are available on internet.

You might put the suspect hard drive into a known good computer (in place of the known good computer CD drive), start chkdsk from the good drive and let it repair the suspect drive. You might use the antivirus scan on the good drive to scan the suspect hard drive for viruses. If XP can not...
