S&P 500 is very close to topping 7/12/07

I'd at least wait for the current and correct thread identifying the intermediate term top to lose validity.

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

Appears the dipsters are seeking revenge against me today for my spanking of the no risk longs yesterday. Won't let 'em push sp futures up and past __42.00 while I'm short.

    Dipsters Get Ready!!!

As in quality filets of no-risk longs and dip buyers? Most of us bigger boys got ready for them yesterday and last week. Hedge Funds Shorting S&P 500 at `Crowded Levels,' Merrill Says July 10 (Bloomberg) -- Hedge funds are short-selling Standard & Poor's 500 Index futures by the most...

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

As usual, Bloomberg is johnny on the spot. Lead from article dated tomorrow (available on the web now): July 9 (Bloomberg) -- The bear market in U.S. Treasuries is just getting started as investors turn their attention to the strengthening labor market and faster inflation instead of the...

Successful traders keep silent because trading is so simple...

I disagree with the below portion of your proposition: I'd say that for the retail investor, the only simple element of trading is the recognition of that part of the relevant information which is beyond the investor's reach, which (usually) is the majority of the relevant information. The...

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

I believe 'Zapper is correct, although not for any reason evident from tape reading this afternoon's equities action. In case you've missed it, we are in a bear market for bonds. Consequences for equities are inevitable. I'm so convinced that I'll short the S&P front month pre-open Monday...

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

Very frustrating for the no-risk longs, especially after they got within 16 points of break even. Now they've got even further to go to get even. More disappointment ahead, I'm afraid.

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

You no-risk longs shouldn't mess the diaper quite yet: although you're still underwater those 25 SP points, you could get them in a blink. Until then, of course, the intermediate-term top is secure.

Why you don't hear about "sector-picking", while you hear a lot about stock-picking?

Sector focus is not a dying art, at least not among pikers like me. Two excerpts, first my own from last Monday followed by today's CNNMoney.com bit on gaming: Thus far, from two Tuesdays ago, I have legged in short positions in these equity spaces: mining, gaming (Vegas exposure versus...

S&P 500 very close to intermediate term top

You need more than 25 more points in the S&P front month before you even are even on your comment. Otherwise, the thread is correct and you are wrong. But of course, someone in your position of discretionary wealth obviously can afford to be wrong.

Thanks for replying. I understand. The text of the complaint against de Wet says "futures," which most people, as you said, take to mean exchange-traded products.

ES down hard last night..and then..

You may be right. It could be a wives' tale. However, in this situation, I surmised -- reluctantly because it is an unhappy thought -- that pricing algorithms boost equities according to the likelihood of a serious attack that leads to big rate cuts. Guesswork. You have another explanation?

Equities rise if interest rates fall. You can figure out the rest.

Check this url: www.cftc.gov/files/enf/05orders/enfjamesdewetcompliant.pdf which is a CFTC enforcement action. The enforcement action is a complaint filed in U.S. federal court. It refers to an entity "located in New York" by the name of FXCM, also referred to in the complaint as Forex...

Nothing from me -- my attention is elsewhere. I'll say I don't get today's rally into FOMC. Probably a head fake. Free advice: sell AUS. (More free advice: you get what you pay for, true also of advice.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought FXCM had offered futures trading to retail customers via futures accounts managed by a South African who subsequently had some trouble with CFTC. Apparently, he was advertising a superb success record even as his customers' accounts at FXCM were losing...
