    Utility ETFs down hard… why?

For example, take a look at these utility index funds: VPU XLU IDU FUTY I haven’t looked at their composition or weights, but I’d imagine they’re similar. Regardless, they all went down hard at the end of September. Worst since COVID 2020… what gives?

Advice vs opinion: legal boundaries in portfolio assistance?

Thank you! I never would have thought of that. @lindq yet another added to my “hot stock tip” list.

Job numbers hot, rates up, inflation up... markets up big-time?

It’s really very simple: everything you’ve ever been taught about economics is a lie. The whole damn US economy is too big to fail. If anything goes wrong they’ll play with interest rates and hand out money until everyone is happy. Sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows!

Advice vs opinion: legal boundaries in portfolio assistance?

Yeah I agree… but her big problem right now is dealing with this broker. I think that getting her into a more reputable brokerage house is a reasonable first step.

Advice vs opinion: legal boundaries in portfolio assistance?

I do have aspirations of becoming an advisor, and a number of others are asking me for help (one guy even said that he wants to work for me). So I feel like it’s time I took action on appropriate licensing. I’d like to make this a side gig. I’d rather help her myself, and tbh, I’m not sure how...

"Axe" Example in the Bond Markets?

So having an “axe” (to grind) means that I have a “position” (to hedge)? How would that be phrased? Say I am in the US, hold Brazilian bonds priced in Real, and I’m not comfortable with the foreign currency risk. Do I have an axe with these bonds, and need to purchase some futures to offset the...

    please help explain this

That’s my point… sometimes it looks weird during hours when the market is closed. There’s something else going on.

    please help explain this

You might see a big drop after hours because batches of dark pool trades are processed and made public after market close. They hit the open markets in weird ways.

Advice vs opinion: legal boundaries in portfolio assistance?

Are you sure this applies to me? You wouldn’t happen to know what license I need to be able to legally advise someone like this? As a d/b/a 1. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/investadvact.asp

Advice vs opinion: legal boundaries in portfolio assistance?

Hello Everyone, I am not licensed. A friend asked me to review her portfolio, and her broker is really giving her the run-around. She's got funds on her books that are making no money--but she's still being hit with a sizeable maintenance fee. Speaking of fees, they're hitting her with other...

"Axe" Example in the Bond Markets?

Would anyone please be kind enough to provide a good solid example of an "Axe" or "Axe to grind" in the FI/bond markets? I've been reading and reading but I just don't get it. Seems that someone has an "Axe" towards something if they have some bias against it? My best...

    Trading with Chat GPT

Completely wrong. Just tell it to “create a stock portfolio that returns 100% annually.” You could even hook it up to IB API and have it trade for you. Can you generate “Early retirement?” /s ;)

    Fidelity Down!?

Seriously frightening... system crash at 3:30pm, right before market close... preventing traders from closing positions at EOD. Imagine being stuck in a 4:1 margined position, and then being margin-called? omg

    Fidelity Down!?

Right?! I had some bond trading to finish up at EOD and I got left out of some positions! Cost me!
