    This drives me crazy

Do SSFs fall under the PDT rule as of this point in time? If not, why not trade SSFs? Commissions at IB are the same as stock transactions (for 100 shares). Carl

the PDT rule needs to go

Hey, I actually got a reply back from the SEC. Here is the reply: So it seems like the SEC is saying that they don't have power over anything but then they say that they allowed all of these things to happen. How am I supposed to respond to this? Carl

Contact the SEC (and they will ignore you). Contact your representative and your senators - they will forward your concerns to the SEC (and they will again ignore you). So nothing will come of this but you will have done all you can do (short of rioting). Carl

Isn't a martingale system inefficient in the sense that you would never be using all of your capital at any point in time? I.e., you'd always have to have reserves for when that 10-count losing streak hits (so that you could double your size the 10th time in a row)? That would be sad if I had...

    It sucks...

Maybe make Transmit and Cancel separate hot keys and make them really far apart on the keyboard? Like F1 = Transmit, F10 = Cancel. Of course, what if you forget the correct mapping and you press F1 to Cancel? However, the likelihood of an error happening is probably smaller using the keyboard...

    It sucks...

What if there was news on a stock and you really wanted to put in a limit order way outside the market to take as many shares as you could get? Seems like IB shouldn't eliminate functionality in order to protect against order entry mistakes. By the way, there is a Percent field under...

I'm sorry - it is the first time I've heard of martingale/anti-martingale and I mixed up their definitions in my reply. Please go back and replace "anti-martingale" with "martingale" in my previous post. Do people use "martingale" systems successfully without blowing up? Carl

How many successful traders on ET use an "anti-martingale" system? I'm just curious because the almost everytime I read about losing streaks, the advice that is given is to trade smaller. Isn't an anti-martingale system prone to more blowouts? 40yotrader - I guess you have researched the...

IB and have i stepped into the bizzaro world

I don't know of a broker that isn't conservative now in this respect because of the pressure of regulators. It is funny that about this time last year, the SEC/NYSE/NASD started cracking down on interpretations that were more liberal. IB allowed daytrading in a cash account in the summer of...

IB and have i stepped into the bizzaro world

Exactly. So why can't I do this with my cash account (assuming that my broker requires that my funds be in my account at time of purchase, i.e., like IB)? Can't my broker do the same favor for me (in my cash account) since they can monitor what my balance (equity) will be at settlement...

IB and have i stepped into the bizzaro world

Assuming what you say is the correct way to think about this issue, then what about the following: Suppose I have X dollars in a margin account and I buy X dollars of a stock and then I sell X dollars of that stock. Then I do this again 9 more times. Why do I not need to pay debit interest...

Help? IB and after hours trading

Currently this is true. When ARCA/REDI merge on listed stocks, I assume ARCA will protect from odd-lot fills on listed stocks as well. It appears that ARCA is using REDI's technology for its new merged platform because ARCA always used to allow odd-lot fills for round-lot orders on its book...

    Short Sales in Pre-market

No restrictions (i.e., no uptick rules) for NASDAQ stocks in pre/post market. There must be some restrictions for listed stocks (during pre/post market) because I can never get shorts off on listed stocks that have declined from their closing price (at least at Interactive Brokers). Good...

Antivirus thread - preventing trojans and keyloggers

Interesting, but I have a hard time believing that a properly designed .jpg viewer would execute binary instructions because of the data inside a .jpg file. At worst it would get fooled into reading bytes that are beyond the limits of the .jpg file (and this in of itself would not result in any...

Antivirus thread - preventing trojans and keyloggers

This virus needs an executable to be installed on the machine in order for it to work. Even infected ".jpg" files will not do any damage if you are not infected with the extractor (see below). The ".jpg" file is raw data and is harmless. It only becomes dangerous when combined with the...

Antivirus thread - preventing trojans and keyloggers

The best form of protection against viruses is being prudent. I would claim opening a "chart.jpg..................exe" file is reckless and ignorant. A ".jpg.................exe" file is not what I meant by a ".jpg" file. A ".jpg.............exe" file is an ".exe" file. Carl

Antivirus thread - preventing trojans and keyloggers

I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but I don't think you can get a virus through a .jpg file. Please explain why you think you were infected by a data file. The infection probably occurred when you ran an executable, not by downloading raw data. Carl

Next time post your order directly to ARCA or INSTINET. For a round-lot order, ARCA and INSTINET don't allow odd-lot matching (for NASDAQ stocks). If you use SMART routing, you will most likely get routed to ISLAND where you will be very susceptible to odd-lot fills. Carl
