    Are you a successful trader?

For the average trader with a retail account of 100k or less, you need to make at least 10% a month just to make a living. Assuming that trading is your income, the compounding argument does not apply as you would be sweeping profits out on a regular basis.

Burger King plans to file for IPO

You might want to take a look at Jack in the Box. They own the Q'doba mexican restaurant chain which is very similar to CMG, but half the size. With CMG approaching a 3 billion mkt cap, JBX's total market cap including their burger chain at only 1.4 B, looks compelling.

2 way Satellite ISP and Data Service

Cool, I make it up to Schweitzer quite a bit and hope to have a place in the area someday. I know a guy on Priest Lake who claims to use Verizon wireless internet to work during the summer and seems happy with the service.

When does trading activity pickup after the Holidays?

Thankfully earnings season is just a couple weeks away, should provide plenty of volatility.

    uarm

If you had never been involved with this stock before today, would you buy a thinly traded stock that has doubled in the last month of the year? The fact that you were involved 15 pts ago is probably clouding your decision making with UARM. You're probably better off letting it consolidate...

New CNBC Format - Big Mistake

Agree, the ticker is now useless and the sound effects are extremely annoying. I also think it is a tremendous conflict of interest to have a news desk set up at the exchange. Makes it a little difficult to have an objective voice.

    GOOG expiration

I'm just a daytrader and would never guess where GOOG will be a month from now, but I've had some success selling and buying back premium on the last 3 expirations with GOOG. Did not think I would have the opportunity today, until it moved towards 430 on the AOL news. As it moved around the...

    GOOG expiration

Has anyone else noticed GOOG has closed on the strike the last 5 expirations. Makes for some decent option trading in the last few hours.

What's the dumbest thing you've done?

Maybe not the dumbest thing I've ever done, but I kind of wish I wouldn't of covered my OSUR short at the close yesterday.

How to properly scan for opportunities?

I realize the above plays look easy in hindsight, but I use tight stops and will often take a few small losses before catching a move.

How to properly scan for opportunities?

I get most of my ideas off briefing.com and (don't laugh) from watching the ticker at the bottom of CNBC in the pre-mkt. There was a ton of pre-mkt activity on MYOG and ENCY, and both gave nice moves off the open. I had been watching ARXT and CHK last week because both companies had priced...

How to properly scan for opportunities?

While I'm probably in the minority I don't use L 2 or T&S. I normally focus on about 10 stocks based on pre-mkt activity or intraday news and then use simple support and resistance. Today was slow, but still found opportunities with MYOG, ENCY, MNST, CHK, ARXT and KOSN. To make sure I don't...

    Earnings Surprise trading

The problem with this strategy is that it is extremely difficult to manage your risk. You mentioned in your first post that you would use options, but the premium in options before an earnings announcement normally factors in the odds of a volatile post earnings move and it would take an...
