European mkts dn 3-6% this yr . US up 16%. We both have near 0 rates

That is interesting. Puts into doubt the common perception that stimulus guarantees a stock market meltup.

Fidelity's fee increase creates opportunity for Schwab and Interactive Brokers

Fidelity has that still. Pretty nuts considering how many major ETFs that rules out for active trading. One rep told me they would get rid of that restriction at some point but that was a year ago.

Petition to the NFA to reduce high tax/fees micros

The NFA is a goddamn joke. They make busy work for themselves by nitpicking/overregulating small players.

Fidelity's fee increase creates opportunity for Schwab and Interactive Brokers

That's the only drawback at Fidelity where any ishares you buy are not marginable for 30 days, so the margin is locked up even with a portfolio margin acct. That's why I use Fidelity and Schwab, and a tiny acct at IBKR

Fidelity's fee increase creates opportunity for Schwab and Interactive Brokers

I would gladly pay Fidelity a custodial fee. Their fills are the same or better than IBKR who is charging me per share commissions. Plus Fidelity actually provides customer service.

Venezuela Stk mkt shows true bear mkts in nominal terms impossible

It can happen on a nominal basis, just look at the Dow bear of 1929-1932. And from 1965 to 1982 it was pretty much dead money (sideways). https://www.macrotrends.net/1319/dow-jones-100-year-historical-chart And here it is inflation adjusted - not very nice looking:

BlueCrest Fined $170MM For Secretly Replacing Top Traders Managing Outside Money With Underperformin

Textbook case of frontrunning client trades. If a small firm had done this they would be shut down and barred from the industry, and perhaps be given prison time.

    The thousand-year-old business

There must be something special in the Japanese economy that enables such establishments to keep it going for so long through market cycles. I don't think that would be so easy here in the US. We seem to have a high churn rate in small food service businesses. Could be higher state/local...

Why does IBKR still have a 30-60 minute wait time to speak to a CSR?

At Fidelity and Schwab I am talking with a knowledgeable CSR within minutes. At IBKR it takes slightly longer plus I have the privilege of paying per share commissions!

How do you legally withdraw money from Roth IRA accounts at retail brokers after age 59 1/2?

I guess you can transfer money out to a bank account, or instead use a broker provided debit card or checks. Pretty sure you don't have to report anything to the IRS if you are older than 59.5. But you should meet with a financial planner and ask this question to be super sure about it.

What kind of Commodities do you trade?

Ive been meaning to trade those LME metals but never did it mainly because they were forward contracts. Do they have 'normal' futures at present?

It's hard hearing friends making profits, and I am losing money.

My retired parents have this "financial advisor" who is nothing more than a bank employee pushing a menu of mutual funds. He has had them invested in some standard large cap funds over the years and they have done pretty well by most standards. Me, I consider myself a professional...

    Election Hedges

I was net long in my core portfolio so I shorted some ES futures. Fully hedged because I hate overnight surprises. Better to miss out on a gain than take a big beating.

Theoretically, shouldn't any indicator-based or relatively simplistic strategy have no edge at all?

There are tons of weak edges out there. The vast majority of people look at the weak edges and toss them out maybe because the sharpe is 0.5 or has losing years, etc. But interesting things happen when you combine non-correlated weak edges. The sum will be greater than the parts.

    Forced Monkey Labor

I won't be buying that brand any more. Humans as a species are evil scum. Oh well, we will all be extinct in a few tens of thousands of years, if not sooner.

Trading with a Health Savings Account? Possible? Anyone do it?

The HSA account custodian and the insurance provider can be (and generally are) completely different. You can have an HSA compliant plan with any insurance provider and still open an account at Fidelity and deposit money into it - Fidelity does not ask for proof that you have a HSA compliant...
