Max loss for sold naked calls

:p I hope it comes back and erases your loss! For what it's worth : one of the Market Wizards (Stuart Walton, I think) had to go the brink, too, before changing his tactics and becoming successful.

Max loss for sold naked calls

Exit the position now and take the existing loss. Thus current unrealized loss = realized loss = maximum realized loss. Since you are convinced that the stock with whipsaw back from 150 to 100, buy an ATM or OTM put. But it's converting that unrealized loss to a realized loss that hurts...

Making my use of stops more methodical and effective

improvingstops, some ideas related to stops (just thinking aloud) : - try entering in steps : enter 1 contract and wait. Enter the 2nd one ASAP if price goes your way. If it goes against you, judge if you are comfortable with what is going on and enter the 2nd. Else exit and wait for a new...

Is there a way to set a stop loss when writing naked options

lasner, this kind of stuff works until it blows up in a really bad way. Forget about naked options, even far OTM Verticals and Iron Condors carry a good amount of danger (-ive gamma). At least try to use a vertical spread instead of naked options to cap the $risk amount.

So I spent 5.5 k on new system, only to have my old system back (beyond mad)

mikasa, GTS is correct. The way memory is used changed from XP to Vista (and hence, Windows 7, too). In fact, one can argue that in XP, RAM was being wasted by not being utilized. Vista and 7 just try to utilize RAM to the max. Proper use of the in-memory buffer cache can reduce the amount of...

Taking 410K to 4million by Year End 2010

vertigo3 + ThePropTrader, that's a sorry tale, if I ever heard one. She literally lost her home....Shocking. Why can't people just trade on sim till they convince themselves that their system works? :(

    Influential Traders/Posters

I have awe and respect for: - riskarb (a.k.a atticus) for being an options God, and demonstrating that a thorough grasp of options theory rewards you exponentially. And on top of that, his directional trading is superb! - Anekdotten and ASusilovic for demonstrating the power of simple TA...

TIVO - Analyzing Time Spreads and Vol Events

Hi Ophir, just wanted to let you know that I discovered LiveVol and your blog http://livevol.blogspot.com via an ad on the "VIX and More" blog around 1 week ago and have been really enjoying reading up the posts there. Very educative, thank you! Your write style is very readable, too. Livevol...

efficiency, just curious : why 20 days for the ATR? Why not 14 or 22, etc;? (Not arguing, just asking).

    Current VIX level

dtrader98, jwcapital, point taken about vol regimes + case for it to stay low. dtrader98, have you done any work on the nature of regimes/regime changes in vol? Asking because I've seen some educated/quantitative posts by you in the past.

Seeking best options learning software - any ideas?

+1 for the thinkdesktop. Lets you trade options with a visual intuition, i.e., you don't need to be a math genius to get a feel for what's going to happen to your position in various "what-if" scenarios. (But don't stop there, do continue reading Natenberg, Hull, or whatever piques your...

    Current VIX level

I'm hoping it will touch 25 before Mar expiry. Betting on higher VIX during Q1 2010 is not a bad idea, methinks.

How to research and verify trading ideas

talon, how about just ignoring the jack hershey flames and the pr0n. You do it, we do it, and let sisboom and co. continue whatever they're doing in their own parallel universe. Just ignore them. Mods, given that the jack hershey post has identical content each time, it should be easy to...

25,000 Indian-origin British doctors to return to India

Oh groan, one more from Yuvrajjj (hope I got the number of j's right). I am from India, and even I am tired of this continual chest-thumping. :p Yuvrajjj, our country has a long way to go, and it is wiser to make progress quietly first. Also, to be honestly self-critical, if one's country is...

Why are living standards in the western world still far ahead of emerging countries?

Misthos, your analysis, insight and the presentation of your ideas in this thread are impressive, brilliant. I believe you are right about the inverse relationship between wealth and morality (and it's close cousin : the enforcement of the law). Similarly, there is an inverse relationship...

While on the topic of screens: I'm waiting for these to hit the market: http://pixelqi.com/products. The firm is trying to market themselves on the basis of lower cost, but the readability and less strain on the eyes is what I am interested in. Basically, the screens will be similar to...
