    The latest from Kneale...

Kneale: The Only Thing We Have to Fear..? http://www.cnbc.com/id/36318747 His observation? Folks are afraid to enter the market and that's a bad thing. The folks who proclaimed doom last year were wrong then, and are wrong now. Fear is why we're seeing higher prices on lower volume. His...

Do ES daytraders fail because they use 2 point stops?

(x-posted from other thread on stop-running) I will use a stop loss (or a trail) once the trade is profitable....but to enter a trade with (for example) a fixed or tight stop loss is just looking for trouble in my book. I have learned (painfully) to give the trade time to develop and not be...

    Stop Loss Hunters?

+1 I will use a stop loss (or a trail) once the trade is profitable....but to enter a trade with (for example) a fixed or tight stop loss is just looking for trouble in my book. I have learned (painfully) to give the trade time to develop and not be focussed on 'instant profitability.'...

new short sale rules next week?

While the shorting of stocks (naked shorting) has been problematic, I disagree wtth the message such a policy sends. "Stocks can only go up." After all, when the market goes down, it's not a "down market" but rather a "correction." That implies something's wrong....the market's not going...

    No Love For Options Xpress

I was at OXPS for 1.5 years and after some absolutely horrible issues with their futures clearing and streaming charts/quotes, moved to ThinkorSwim. $5 stock trades, comprable option/future commissions, and a wonderful desktop client. I just wish they offered more futures contracts than they...

Do guests ever pay to get on business news pgms?

Who needs to pay? I'm sure there is some 'game' played somehow, though. But if you think about it -- Networks need to fill airtime with guests. Guests will love the (inter)national exposure for themselves and their companies. Free marketing for their brand and preselected talking...

    Etrade, wtfo?

Agreed. Those ads made no sense, and besides WTF does the government need to advertise the census? What next, will the IRS run spots asking us to pay our taxes?

    Etrade, wtfo?

ETrade ran 3 or 4 Superbowl ads with their "trading babies." Granted, I do not 'get' much of the rationale behind marketing, but this is just stupid. Is there some magical quality of "trading babies" that ETrade thinks will earn them customers? Or is it just such a hideous ad campaign that...

Most commenly used words in news that effect stock price

"First on CNBC" will move the price lower .... ;) (sorry, couldn't resist....but in all seriousness by the time it's on-air, the 'move' is already done, either up or down as necessary)

Why you shouldn't trade the 1st hr of the day

FWIW saying my best trading is from 0815 - 1130 and from 3-4PM. First hour of trading is fine for trading if know what you're doing and don't get caught off-guard. If anything, I avoid 1130-1330 like the plague because to me it's just a boring time in the market and more choppy than trendy...

    Noobish cme currency futures question!

Don't feel bad, it took me a while to figure fx out as well ... but the other poster is correct; they are always referenced in pairs. If the euro is down, you have to ask "against what?" Good to see you admit your newbieness and would suggest (not that you don't know already) to do a ton of...

    Addicted to Average Down?

If you have a stock that you believe in, averaging down can be part of a useful strategy. To wit: I initiated a position on an int'l stock in summer 2008 with the goal of accumulating it for a few years because I didn't see it really 'taking off' and generating huge returns until then. So I...

ToS is adding "Robotic Trading Engine"

I'll take your word for it -- I've tried it on two currently-configured Mac machines with no luck. TOS tells me it's something they're working on. My luck, it's prolly some Apple-induced hiccp with Java on OSX 10.5. Perhaps when I reformat my boxes to 10.6 this spring it'll resolve itself.

ToS is adding "Robotic Trading Engine"

Unfortunately it still does not work on OSX ToS Desktop yet. The devs have been informed, but no ETA on a fix. And I refuse to use Windows. :)

Trend Following 2009: What Went Wrong?

How about that lots of people were sceptical of the 2009 run-up? I think most of the 'action' were institutions/funds trying to recoup 2008 losses rather than individual investors (tho there were many, I'm sure.) TV pundits called 2009 the 'most hated market rally' they could remember; I'm...

    Iron Condors --help

If the SPX stays between your two short strikes you should be okay at expiration. Thst's best case outcome. Key thing is for you to ensure you take proper risk management on the position so you don't get caught in a losing trade on either end. As to the fill, the SPX has notorious spreads...
