    Calendar Spread prior to earnings

I had a calendar spread on last summer for ISRG. The day of earnings, I closed the position -- which was a f---king brilliant call because the underlying exploded like 60 points and would not have boded well for that strategy from that point into expiration. I learned not to get tempted by...

Taking a loss can set you free?

Probaably the fact you realize it's a loss and it's hanging over your head....that bad decision or analysis is still there in your face on your screen every minute of the day. Take the loss and move on, you aren't constantly reminded of it -- of course the idea is to take the loss, learn from...

    The Dennis Gartman Letter

$400/mo for the newsletter - mostly focussed on commodoties, but he does provide a broad macroeconomic view of other markets including fx, equities, grains, etc. I subscribed last fall and found it very informative.

All you ever need to know about trading - The Musical

Dear gods that is GOOD! Though I must confess to hating you because as a result, I've been humming that tune all effing day today. :)

    Mad money being canceled

I'm sure as hell not a blind-faith Cramer supporter -- and would be the first to say he's been quite daffy in the past few months -- but if you'd post a link to such statements/stories you'd probably be taken a bit more seriously with such claims. This post reads like something you'd find on...

Bloomberg Vs. CNBC, Cast your Vote

More CNBC crap...I'm on travel and my hotel room only has CNBC not Bloomberg. Watching the Senate Banking hearings, and not only do they pull away DURING testimony/q-and-a so the studio folks can provide 'context' that is mostly worthless, but their market update thing they run every 10...

Bloomberg Vs. CNBC, Cast your Vote

Bloomberg = excellent. No hype, sensational graphics/sound effects, cheerleading, and nearly everyone is OBJECTIVE in their analyses. Plus there's no shouting matches or talk-overs like CNBC is doing these days with their 'Task Farces' .... aside from Rick Santelli, most of CNBC-US is a...

    Cramer distributes trading profits

Wonder what those profits were based on.....how much starting capital this year, etc, etc, etc. I give him credit for doing the charity work, regardless of the hype surrounding his show and periodic weird calls.

    WARNING: Open E Cry

Agree. I noticed a few lockups now and then in recent weeks but they were nothing that would drive me to move my account from them. Not to make excuses for them, but folks need to realize that every broker is going to have some sort of problem or other now and then. Even the best traders I...

Joe Kernen Calls Out Denis Neal-insults Fly

Good riddance to Neal. He is smug, whines, and in general I can't stand him. Kernen isn't as bad, but at least there are some times when either he a) makes a valid point, or b) makes me laugh in a good way. Neal makes me want to spork my ears out.

    Mac Computers Moving an Appllication

IIRC you can drag the Applications folder to the new hard drive, and then copy your preferences from /user/library to your new machine. Might have a conflict if you run both copies simultaneously on the network with the same serial #, though.

    WARNING: Open E Cry

Got a nicely-worded note back from OEC customer service confirming the $25/mo fee for simulation accounts. When at the gym today it dawned on me that my savings on 10 round-trips compared to my current broker would offset the cost of a demo account....while it's something that I really thing...

    WARNING: Open E Cry

I just sent OEC a note asking about their demo accounts. I've got a live and fully-funded trading account, but based on what I've seen, would have to pay $25/mo for a demo account even though I am a 'live' customer. I pray that I mis-read that, though. A paper-trading account is crucial to...

    No problems for me today.

Moving Stop Up to Breakeven: Helpful or Harmful?

My strategy on break-evens: if I double-down on a trade to lower/raise my average cost of a position, I will exit half my new position at breakeven (or BE+1 tick to cover commissions) and then let the rest ride if the trade is still working for me; if not, I will exit completely at BE or...

    WARNING: Open E Cry

Other traders I'm talking with (not on OEC) are having problems with Dax quotes, so I don't think DAX issues are exclusive to OEC.

    WARNING: Open E Cry

If you're trading the OEC Demo, I understand those servers/networks are a bit overloaded with a ton of new freebie accounts there --- but the 'regular' (ie live customers) systems are okay. At least that's what OEC told me the other day when my demo froze for 30 seconds and surprised me.

Openecry vs Others - Speed and Features

As a new OEC customer, I traded the FOMC today @ OEC for the first time and it performed flawlessly.....it was the best FOMC trading session I've ever had, the charts were current, my fills were prompt, and compared to where I used to trade futures, I was more than a little pleased!

Openecry vs Others - Speed and Features

If you're daytrading futures, I would avoid OXPS -- I got burned several times with horrible fills (90 mins one time on a market order) and very unreliable data and charting since they integrated with Brokerxpress last December. See my other threads on OXPS for more feedback -- they're great...

Too much information and you're out!

I've come to the Keep It Simple Stupid conclusion as well in my futures trading. First thing I did was turn off CNBC during the day. That alone helped my profits. :) NOTE: This is what "works" for me NOW. That's not to say it won't "work" for me in a month or six months, at which point...
