New Daytrading rule in September 01'

It absolutely is discrimination, but the financial markets are the institutions' world, and we individual traders are just living in it. Unfortunately, this is a microcosm of the political world, where those who have the most money have the largest say in what happens and what rules get made to...

New Daytrading rule in September 01'

As previously stated in this thread, futures are not regulated by this rule, as the SEC has no jurisdiction over futures. I believe that options, however, are covered by the rule, as they are derivatives of securities. SEC does have jurisdiction there.

    IB and Level 2

I use Realtick for my charting, Level II, news, etc. along with IB for my executions.

New Daytrading rule in September 01'

This is the fly in the ointment to all of this. This new rule places a huge new burden upon the brokerages, in particular the ones that cater to both daytraders and investors, who will now have to inspect and monitor every one of their clients' daily and weekly trades and then figure out if it...

Interactive Brokers has NO respect for your privacy!

Well, I wasn't thinking very clearly about the postcard thing was I? ;) I agree that there should be an option to opt out of emailed statements, and simply receive email notification of new statements posted online. That probably won't be difficult for them to do.

    JNPR trade strategy

BEST ECN, when it's properly working, is very good. Unfortunately, there still seem to be some bugs that need to be worked out there. As far as a price gap between Best ECN and NASDAQ, it all depends on that moment. If the inside bid and offer are both ECN's, then at that moment there is no...

New Daytrading rule in September 01'

To my understanding, if you have a cash only account you would not be limited to a certain number of daytrades per week (by the way it's 4 daytrades per week, not 3). To answer someone else's question, if you are not defined as a pattern day trader, you do NOT get the 4-1 margin. To...

Interactive Brokers has NO respect for your privacy!

Actually, IB does have a secure area on their website where you can login and check your statements securely. It's just that they also send you emails of the statements. I think the reason they don't send out hard copies is that for a broker to be able charge commissions of only $1.95 per...

New Daytrading rule in September 01'

To clarify a little further, to my knowledge you would be able to daytrade with less than 25K if you have a cash only account. You will be required to have at least 25K if you are a daytrader and have a margin enabled account (even if you never use that margin). However, to daytrade in a cash...

    Thoughts on adjusting betsize

Also, the use of the word "bet" or "betsize" I feel is a little counterproductive, as it implies that you are gambling and might as well be flipping a coin, whereas good traders use risk management and stop management to control the outcome of a trade.

    shorting with IB

I'm not sure as far as the actual number of shares of each stock available for shorting, but as far as a hotkey for shorting, you should have no problem setting that up, since it's just a sell order. Just pick the key you want to be your sell order, set it and when you bring up a stock you want...

Swing trading ... stocks or options?

One way to swing trade options that helps put things more in your favor is to sell the options rather than buy them. That way you have time erosion working in your favor. Of course, this is really only a consideration if you are trading options with near term expirations. If you are dealing...

Anybody making money trading in summer?

I'm up over $5K so far this month. I trade far less than I did in the strongly trending markets of the past two years. Now I've been waiting for very high probability setups, and I make maybe 4 or 5 trades a week right now. Like rtharp mentioned in another thread, one of the key patterns I...

    IB and Liability Insurance

IB is SIPC insured, which means that your account is protected up to $500,000 if the broker should fold or have any other problems with your money. I don't think you have anything to worry about (unless you were trading an account over $500K ;) ).

    Real Tick Users

The setup you described is the exact setup I use, including executing trades through IB. I subscribe to Realtick directly from Townshend. I have Realtick open on my left monitor and IB's TWS on my right monitor. The setup works great for me.

    CPU Usage

mjt, As tntneo said, any fans in your computer should be running when the computer is on. If the fan is 4" in diameter, it's most likely not your CPU fan, but a case fan, which nonetheless is important in keeping all the components cool. Your CPU fan is usually a smaller fan mounted...

    Great New Pattern

I'm also still watching LH for a short. I got stopped out last week with a couple point profit, but in addition to the stock sitting in a major resistance area, it has completed its split run, as it splits at the end of trading tomorrow, and like rtharp I am looking for weakness to re-enter on...

    How Good is BEST

Believe me, jperl, I know the minute details of all the order routes inside and out. As I said, I trade very liquid stocks (ie daily volumes of 3 million+), and on stocks such as these, there has always been an ISLD post to go after, sometimes a bit outside the best quote, but never more than I...

    How Good is BEST

I traditionally just used ISLD to get in and out, as I trade most liquid stocks where there is usually an ISLD bid or offer near or at the inside. But since trying out IB's Best ECN, I find myself using that more often now, as it seems to work pretty well.

    CPU Usage

greydeath, What I was suggesting really isn't all that dangerous, even for inexperienced computer users. It's not difficult to open up a computer case and just look at the cooling fan for a CPU to see if it's still spinning. It also doesn't require changing or tweaking any parameters to go...
