yellen says the fed needs to do more!!!! what else would she say

In 2014, the fed is going to start buying stocks to asset diversify their 5 trillion dollars of bonds. Anytime, the market is down more than 0.5% the Fed is a buyer. Buying stocks is a no risk game now.

Stock Market Warning: Margin Debt Hits Record-High $401 Billion

Your logic is faulty. The total number of long positions is >>> total number of short positions. For example, AAPL, has <2% of its float short, so there is 50x long positions than short positions in AAPL. Same is true with most other stocks.

IB margin increase after close of market

My margin went up a lot during the night between Thurs/Fri as well. This is probably due to the 200 naked puts I had on SPY. If each one just had an increase of $100 margin requirement, due to the SPY going down a lot on Thursday, that would be a $20k increase in margin overnight. I...

    Options trading for a living

You think it is easy to get a >100% annual return on your money? $150/day on $20k is about 150% annualized return for 200 trading days. That is completely unreasonable. First of all $20k is not enough to really start trading. Second if you have to ask this question you are not ready to...

MKT Order Commissions - IB SMART (flat rate) vs Others

You should be using cost plus if you are really doing that amount of volume ~2M shares per month. The commissions get almost cut in half after the first 300k shares in cost plus. https://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/index.php?f=commission&p=stocks1

    Buying puts safer than calls

Puts cost more so that is factored into the price. ex. SPY @170.9 AUG 16 166 P costs 0.23 (4.9 otm) 175 C costs 0.12 (4.1 otm)

CEFs at large discounts to NAV

I was wondering why certain CEFs trade at such large discounts to NAV. For example, BIF trades at a 22% discount to NAV. It's total market cap is 200M. It is mostly US equities 1/3 of which is BRK-A. 1) Why aren't arbitragers stepping in and buying the fund and shorting the holdings...

bull call spread - if markets closed, how do I know if I need to exercise

Say I have a bull call spread, a large number of contracts in UVXY, and then for some reason the markets get closed during the day of options expiration (9/11 example). How would I know if I need to exercise the long portion of my contracts to protect the contracts I wrote?

Selling naked puts on dividend paying stocks?

You only have to pay the dividend if you are short calls and then they exercise the call before the dividend date. Being short a put gives someone the right to sell you the stock, so you would not be short the shares or have to pay any dividend.

NASDAQ Stocks - Bid-Ask and Slippage experience

I would not use a market order in the first 10 minutes of trading, too risky on what your fill will be at. Placing a market order before the open is ok, you can get the opening price. 4. you are always subject to partial fills. 5. sizes less than 100 are not part of the NBBO.

Explain VIX ETFs to me like I'm 5

Why are there so many? -- each fund company wants to make money from their fee to administer the ETF. What is the difference between short, mid, and long term with regard to VIX indexes? -- the timeframe of the expiry of the holdings in the fund. Inverse S&P 500 ETFs are roughly the...

Interactive brokers needs customized colours on Time and Sales window

it would be nice to see the subpenny orders instead of them rounding it in in the T&S window, so you can see why your order isn't getting filled.

Grinding it out, day after day

Awesome journal, a great read - worth reading the 1600 posts, but my eye hurts now. I am surprised about how patient you were answering the same questions over and over again from people ... well that and the big money won.
