FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

hi jim - legitimate concerns but please lets not paint everything with a "Refco Inc" brush... i am not saying there are no risks, nor that the risk of fraud, default is not there of course, but... most of those fx brokers take very little risk, they make more than enough money from customers...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

tomcole, trader/god - thanks, appreciate the inputs / suggestions just by way of feedback: . i did ask for and obtain a couple of minor contractual 'improvements', altho not nearly as many as i was seeking to obtain (but thats no surprise), however nothing as far-reaching as what tomcole is...

    WTF!!!! $$$ Drops its pants!!

yes but thats also his one & only story - at the time, he wrote that that was his 1st and last foray into the fx spot market - and correct me if i am wrong i seem to remember that it happened on NFP Aug 24 when the mkt experienced an instant freefall on all USDXXX pairs... honestly not a huge...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

agree but even when they do (e.g. ACM with UBS & Deutsche, my second-tier prime broker with RBS) they don't seem to be very willing to offer properly / unequivocally (i.e. offering protection shld the broker go bust) segregated accts to their clients... at least thats what i am observing right...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

100% agree, its just a transitional thing i think: . at $0.5-1mio AUM, i still find high leverage to be a highly desirable thing, thats why i am still 'accepting' the higher (broker) credit risk, while trying to minimize its impact in all sorts of ways, segregation being one of the best...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

i have a few months ago but we cldn't agree on leverage (they won't budge from 3%, while i get and use 1% from the second-tier prime broker). also unclear they have the infrastructure to let me trade in blocks and allocate to client accts. UBS, Fimat etc clearly confirmed they cldn't do it. From...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

they are a UK broker, don't think they wld entertain the T-Bond solution but yeah, i'd like that! now, if they simply segregate the monies into a "myname" designated acct at their prime broker's, RBS in this case, i v.much believe i am safe in the event they shld go bkrupt. if it is under a...

FXCM Is Buying RefcoFX - Deal is Done - Funds are safe

true but other than in the case of (rare) week-end gaps and some other exceptional occurences such as on NFP Aug 2004, the risk of a custie acct blowing up before the broker has had a chance to liquidate it is almost non-existent on the Forex (thats if the dealers are not dozing off when the...

    Refco Wins Lawsuite Against Customers

correct. one way around that tho, is have your broker set up a properly segregated acct to hold your available margin equity for instance, and sweep monies regularly from your non-seg acct to your seg. acct... understand IB does that... am currently getting my 'prime broker' to implement that...

    Refco Wins Lawsuite Against Customers

refcofx assets will be auctioned, but as regards client accts, honestly can't see the judge approving of a deal that wld give preferential treatment to a particular sub-class of Refco Inc creditors - unreg refcofx non-segregated acct holders - vs other RCM acct holders for instance... think the...

    Offshore Inc. for tax-avoidance trading?

perhaps, but i'll need to be so much better to beat an 18%+ tax spread don't u think? i mean, i'm exaggerating a bit but if we follow your line of reasoning, why bother looking for tighter spreads, leverage etc, why don't we just buy currencies cash from our bank teller at 1%+ commission rates...
