"IB NOT a TRUE real time data source!"

I believe $50 is the actual fee charged by NYSE so you will at best find it a tad cheaper... the NASDAQ Level2 fee is only $9 as charged by NASDAQ as I recall, $14 for TotalView [which blows out the limit books of various ECNs plus info about the crosses]. It does sound like you need a true...

"IB NOT a TRUE real time data source!"

You want NYSE OpenBook. I don't have an IB sub to it so I don't know if it's the newer real time version or the 5 second delayed version. Probably worthwhile asking if you want it. I don't know that there is an equiv for Amex.

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

Yes. Each individual account supports two full function user names I was told. And yes, I am set up and it works (for funds management at least -- not yet on STP for TWS for individual accounts). I actually keep one at home and one in office now to avoid transporting (& risking) the Secure...

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

I asked cust service about the single point of failure issue when I went to STP for funds mgmt. I was instructed to set up a 2nd username, which I have since done. This seems reasonable to me.

Is there a problem with IB's time and sales?

2 days on 873a (beta TWS). I don't know whether the improvements were in TWS or on the server side (I'm on ushmds2a), but time & sales data retrieval is definitely much more reliable over the past 2 days. So whatever it is, thank you!

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

On the first point, it's true if you prohibit another login within a minute, it's better -- though still not as good as challenge & response bec a key logger can siphon the credentials and login before you hit enter. A challenge & response is immune as the challenge is unique to a session...

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

Well, hopefully it wouldn't be implemented this way. One way to do it securely is: After a successful login, a shared secret is established between the client app and the server. On a reconnect, that shared secret is used to authenticate.... And "short" will determine how long that shared...

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

The only way to achieve this is to not accept another login within a minute after a successful login.... I guess that's fair for "human" based clients. I stand corrected.

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

Good as a credential store, but much less secure for OTP bec a trojan can surreptitiously read from the device. Similarly, SecureID time-based systems are less secure than the SecureComputing challenge/response system IB uses because you have potentially a one minute replay attack interval...

URGENT, Secure Device Required for TWS

I am generally in favor of STP and am anxiously awaiting its availability for my (non-advisor) account. However, I will have to agree that if momentary pinkouts and/or control-alt-R require re-entry of STP info, then it may impact my opinion tremendously. I don't run into the problem as much...

    Inet & Nasdaq

This matches my understanding too, though I am confused by the mixture in the discussion between consolidating the Level II book under NSDQ vs. routing destinations. You do know that when an order routes out of Nasdaq to another destination, it may appear under the NSDQ MPID (at least that's a...

Is there a problem with IB's time and sales?

Maybe I am being a pollyana, but I'm trying TWS 873 beta and it seems like Time & Sales pagination works a lot better. It still sometimes takes a bit after hitting Next/Prev, but at least it no longer seems to freeze up. (By freeze up, I mean: get a blank screen... never refreshes ...

    Directedge and IB

For NMS stocks, all market centers will be required to ship the order out to the best inside quote. Unless the broker marks the order not to be shipped, but then the broker would have been required to have checked all market centers to avoid a trade-through of a protected quote. I suspect IB...

    Directedge and IB

I assume that has to change with NMS stocks phasing in on July 9 through Oct, as there're at least 13 protected NMS market centers including 3 ADFs: 1. Direct Edge 2. LavaFlow (fka NexTrade) 3. Track And I don't recall IB offering direct routing to Lava or Track at all. Maybe we also...

"IB NOT a TRUE real time data source!"

I agree. e.g., it isn't tick/tick, etc. It's good enough for many users -- in the exceptions, a full data source should purchase from a data provider. (Though it would be nice to have better time & sales (more reliable) functionality....)

    Directedge and IB

I would love to hear about DirectEdge and other supported stocks beyond GMS issues as well. But just to point out, direct routing to DirectEdge is not required per se for Reg NMS compliance as many other venues support routing out for compliance if the order is so designated.

6:1 margin for overnight stock positions at InteractiveBrokers

Or more generally well diversified portfolios where positions have lower correlations with each others (negative as suggested by the QQQQ/SPY example is of course best). Or positions that have low volatility. There's a Try PM button in View > Account that shows you the impact of switching...

IB and All or None orders not working?

Ah, thanks. I missed the part in the help that says that dark blue indicates either: native/not working yet or simulated in IB I guess I always assumed at least some exchanges would be handled native so when NYSE, GMS and OTCBB all came up dark blue, I assumed an issue.

    Will IB offer mini-grains?

What's "the IB bulletin board?" Seems like something we should be scanning more regularly.

IB and All or None orders not working?

I am having the following problem and am wondering if anyone else is also seeing the same thing? During regular trading hours, I try to place a day order to buy or sell, with a limit price, All or None, at 100 or 500 shares, with SMART as the destination. The order status stays a dark...
