Newbie looking for some friendly advice, please!!

thats a strategy based on a 1 min chart with confirmation on the trend from longer charts. i'm usually looking for 5-10 pip gains. i'm still working on other things tho without using the stomach churning 1 min charts.

    Doesn't anyone remember 2000?

there was no chance of a rally today. the yen carry trade has been unwinding all week. gonna be interesting to see how things unfold next week.

    Doesn't anyone remember 2000?

imo its better to compare 1929 or 1987 instead of 2k

depends, if earnings drop P/E ratios go through the roof. then the markets look overvalued, then the returns would look 'frothy' over that period you can't bubble out of a bubble and expect things to not blow up at some point. the bigger the balloon the bigger the bang.

    Grmn

mid 2004 this showed up on my value screen. didn't expect it to have such a big run. 120 was too far too fast imo but could go beyond that price after xmas. it was funny to see the price drop below 100. margin pressures will come down the line but shouldn't show up anytime soon.

    RIMM short term play

i could never go long a company that pushes its products through the system to make their numbers.

    The Crash of 2007

companies like rimm could be lower in a year but who knows what happens over the next 6 months. would suck to see margin calls only to know months afterwards you were right. i'd rather short the USD and go long metals instead of wizzing into the wind with shorts.

when the USD drops it can cause foreigners to bail. you think they're going to enjoy watching the value of their holdings keep dropping? there's a breaking point that hasn't been reached yet. look at this scenario, stocks start to sell off when foreigners dump US assets, yields on bonds go...

Newbie looking for some friendly advice, please!!

power rarely goes out, if it does i could lose money, but thats the cost of doing business. thank god for wireless internet as well, so yes i do have a back up. i could set stops if i wanted about 8 or 9 pips below the entrance point, but its not worth the effort because if it was a bad...

Newbie looking for some friendly advice, please!!

i hate having stops in place. i use charts for my stops instead of an arbitrary number. much more comfortable with that.

    Black Monday? *cough**cough*

giving back the yen that was borrowed after getting hit with margin calls, shrugs. i think the possibility of a 1987 style drop could happen this month, but predicting a severe drop like that would be nothing more than luck. could create some great buying opportunities for 3 years down the...

When Does A Stock Market Go Down?

if the dow went over 15k, central banks will talk about how great of a job they have done.

    Doesn't anyone remember 2000?

what has me worried is the market hitting new highs and the USD dropping like a rock. Thats recipe for disaster that could hit on an option expiration day. Then you have all those quant funds out there and no more requirements to short on the uptick. Could be a very ugly day sometime...
