Are options a waste of time and money? (pun intended)

Options are fascinating-it's like understanding how your car works. Most people can drive but they have no idea about the mechanics. I'm cheap and hate to pay for expertise I can attain myself! Aim for 2% a month, those guys who make billions -that's a lot of luck and cojones.

Does Option chain pricing, open interest and others can hint about direction of market ?

I look at open interest relative to key points on the underlying chart - I take a little bit of notice of supposed support and resistance, prices tell me more about concensus. Good luck (luck is inestimable as a skill!)

Are options a waste of time and money? (pun intended)

When you understand options are about relationships you will transition to being a calm profitable trader. For 24 years, and with my tiny brain I have made a decent living. I don't choose to upscale but my ROCE is generally 100% p.a. From my blog: Trade 321 16June Here we sell 2x the near...

Are options a waste of time and money? (pun intended)

And there's your problem- 0DTEs are a casino. I trade anything up to 6 months hence. You will not make money with short term options trades. That is my experience, though I've had fluke trades that have made serious coin within a few days. Don't despair, it takes time.

Are options a waste of time and money? (pun intended)

Just go to the site and check out the history and this month's expiries. I'm a REAL trader no higher education, just a bloke who did the 20+ years' hard yards after 2 years paper trading https://optionsinvesting.co.uk FYI-I forgot equity options long ago. Trade the index-there's a lot of them .

Options are about relationships- selling or buying outright does not work. Butterflies stink and this market is brutally supressed by too many clowns who sell!

    PRINCIPLES OF GREAT TRADERS

How many of them admit it was 90% luck? Where are the 'great' traders who started in 2007 or 2020?

Please help me to understand .

I have bought a few penny shares- one is a ten bagger that pays for my adventures in the world of stocks( I trade options full time). I buy stocks that are in a pullback which then seem to keep on pulling back. My latest: https://thorenergyplc.com £100 buys a shedload of shares! For me an...

    Looking for options software advice.....

Closed out a credit trade today, just felt a bit uncomfortable -not at risk. I will never seriously ask for money, it's not like I need any. Glad you are motivated -I'm the dumbest person in the room so if I can make a living with options most people should be able to make a killing.

    Looking for options software advice.....

James like you I was aware of Weekly Options but have no interest and as retail not sure how we access them anyway. Anyone looking for a broker with lower barrier to entry -OptionsDesk are keen to get new people but it's again a phone service with hand holding- not quite advisory. I'm with ADM...

    Looking for options software advice.....

If anyone needs specific historical data I have screenshots going back many years in pdf form. And YES, this was live on Monday morning. Doh! In my defence live to the minute data pretty irrelevant as my positions are traded using my broker's prices, by phone. I get a quote on a spread and set a...

    Looking for options software advice.....

My Tasty Trade account was all set to be funded when the S&P shot up 6.5% in a day. If you think trading the US has an advantage, good luck with that. I started trading covered calls like most people. That was in 1999. After 2 years of paper trading strangles on the S&P, I decided it was much...

    Looking for options software advice.....

Thanks James I'd just assumed the prices were 'ball park' and as I trade spreads I get quoted by phone, no problem. I have to use the old iVolatility calculator (CME). I screenshot closing prices daily around 9 pm. The weird thing is I was speaking to theice.com about delayed prices and they...

    Looking for options software advice.....

I have seen these prices posted at 08:01 but I am having talks with Ice.com who say they want to address the issue of 15 min delayed prices. I don't log on for the first half hour usually but I did see prices last week at 08:01.. It may be that they are testing this, nobody told me! You...

    Looking for options software advice.....

Thanks for posting the link. Yes, I show a real trade every Saturday using Friday's closing prices and for education purposes will run to expiry but sometimes close out within the expiry cycle. I have no ambition to take money off people for this education. It's not a scam, trading is hard enough.

Sorry I mistyped it's about £120 a month on IB and I really hate that platform. In fact I have no need for online trading. All the best, good people.

I only trade the index and NO. I have done the hard yards, but for twenty grand I'll give you the key to making a living for life. Equity options are a punt as far asI'm concerned. An added complication with less chance of success.
