    Option Market Maker Questions

I used to trade on IB as as soon as my bids/offers went in a 20 lot would follow my trades-never really questioned it,as I have no interets or the smarts to care about other activity at the point of trading. I suspect many online platforms are 'perved' as you put it-the market is so completely...

Do Option Sellers Have a Trading Edge?

Of course if you're a good disciplined trader you can trade options and for example as Price Headley once suggested when selling strangles if premium trebles on one side, close out and have a rethink. Even a fund manager could cope with this, and yet they fail every year relying on the retail...

    Probability of Success in Spreads

It really sickens me that traders snipe at each other-why do we not try to be supportive? I have always tried to help others-the industry relies on an army of clueless dimwits giviong money to fund managers who are hopeless- why? Because naysayers like so many here make trading look so...

All options broker will place recognised strategies for you- I rarely leg in to a spread but might buy some spreads and then buy a few more as price dictates, and if the reasons for taking the trade remain the same

    Need help with probabilities

Brighton- couldn't put it better myself- you buy a spread for 10 when strikes are 50 points apart then your odds are 1 in 5. I buy put spreads with odds of 1 to 8 when they get hit I clean up. Fighting the FED and all those liars and money printing scumbags is not fun though

    Need help with probabilities

Delta of 0.20 can be taken as a 20% chance of that option being in the money at expiry. Are you sure you have the multiples right? In the US an option is usually based on 100 shares-in the UK it's 1,000-so here an option quoted at a price of 10= £100. A typoical UK stock would trade for about...

You can use Delta as a proxy for probability, or use standard deviations-Bollinger bands are quite handy

    Trading for a living....full time....only income

Well done, and thanks for posting- the market has not felt right for years, due to FED intervention and banksters being given a cash mountain- when it does return to normality there will be a sh**storm like no other, but it's no like anyone will be living on bread and water next time round.Except...

What was the ***last*** thing you had to master before becoming profitable?

I would say all strategies have periods when they work, and knowing that they have stopped working is a very hard thing to understand. I was helping a friend who had sold a system to a lot of people and it lost for 10 consecutive days- too much for most people and I think it was abandoned-but...

    Trading for a living....full time....only income

My trading life got weird and in 2010 I was offered some paid work with a charity so heart won over head. 2010 was a terrible year for me and I lot confidence. Since then I've made 10-20% p.a.but only on Index options- I have never done well with shares, and UK stocks are rubbish anyway. Well...

    Trading for a living....full time....only income

I thought it was me! I look at open interest on UK FTSE options and it is rubbish- No real volatility either-VIX has not ticked above 20 for waaaaay too long now. I think I'm the only trader in the UK now

    delta gamma neutral calendar spreads

Vega as we know is the least reliable Greek, and as BS is the least reliable option pricing formula it is pretty much stick a wet finger in the air, or don't trade any kinds of time spreads. I see endless discourse on pricing, but ultimately we can take the trade or walk away, but in a quantum...

best options strat for newbee starting with 3k

don't waste your money on stock options- the index is safest-you'll get killed with stocks,as they can move ±5% in a day and whiplash you so fast you cannot react. Stocks are a pure punt- a gamble.

best options strat for newbee starting with 3k

Strategies are important to understand,as is the language of options. It takes years to get comfortable with options-I've been trading them since '99 and still come across new things- broken wing butterfly for example. there's some great free education- such as 21stcenturyinvestor.com and...

Xmas tree- example buy SPX 1500 put, sell 1480,sell 1460 etc ratio spread buy 1x 1500 sell 2x 1480 put. there are so many different combinations,it's what makes stocks one dimensional with 1 in 3 hope,as opposed to options where you can get a credit and extract even more when the market moves...

    UK index options

Good life to you sir as Peter Griffin would say. I have nothing but praise and admiration for any of us retail traders who make money. It can be done-we do it, despite the headwinds of trading against the evil empire of the banksters and their insider trading. I've had to slow donw due to other...
