Abolish the Income Tax: Steve Forbes and Peter Schiff

Thanks for the videos. I watch Schiff a few times a week, but hadn't seen this one yet. It is quite good.

Will bonds crash cause stocks melt up?

I posted this image in another thread already, but it is relevant to this discussion. The image shows the yield on 1 yr treasuries as a percentage of the yield on 10 year treasuries from 1962 until April 2nd, when I took this snapshot. Since the 1 year yield is so close to zero, the spread to...

Fed Meeting on Monday, April 5th at 11:30am

Here's a better picture of what I was trying to describe: spread between 1 yr and 10 yr as a % of 10 yr yield.

Fed Meeting on Monday, April 5th at 11:30am

1: Thanks for the website correction. 2: I'm not going to get into an argument with you on here, but I will cite references so you can think for yourself. Buttonwood dedicated his column in this week's Economist magazine to the dangerously steep yield curve titled "Dangerous Curve". Here's...

    Position Traders

Are you familiar with the IBD (Investor's Business Daily) newspaper? They have a lot of useful material for position traders including how-to articles, books by William J. O'Neil, a website full of tools and charts at investors.com and monthly IBD meetup groups in most big cities. The message...

    Is PCLN another ENE?

PCLN keeps going up because we keep shorting it =) I stopped out yesterday on my first try at it. I'll be back if signs of a blow-off appear or trend turns down.

The asset class that acts most like a lotto ticket

The sector that I would say exhibits the most uncertainty is biotech. Those stocks gap up or down 40%+ with a frequency no other sector approaches. An example over the last 2 or 3 years is DNDN, and there are plenty more biotechs doing similar crazy stuff.

Sounds like maintaining this journal is helping your focus quite a bit. It is certainly helping others. Congrats on the profits Corey =)

Trading Plan and Backtesting, which one first?

This is really good advice. One of the smartest guys I've ever met said, "measure what is important, because that's what gets optimized". He was talking about the situation where corporate management measures each employee's hours closely and they end up with a lot of people really good at...

Journey from investment bank to independent automated trader

Never say never. The India market gapped UP 17% earlier this year the day after their big election. Trading had to be halted after the first couple minutes. Here's the historical data from the India etf from yahoo finance (SYMBOL: INP): 20-May-09 47.82 48.64 47.34 47.45 1,237,400 47.45...

    Gordon Gekko... has a daugher

This "Money Never Sleeps" story line I keep reading about is unbelievable! America is turning to socialism on a scale never seen before and we need help. It is quickly becoming apparent that those Fabian blacksmiths (responsible for Bretton Woods among other things) really have identified the...

best way to short play commercial banking

Oh, and to answer your question: to short real-estate, consider buying SRS, or shorting IYR. To play the banking side of things, I'm buying triple-short banks FAZ.

best way to short play commercial banking

I don't know where you're from, but in St. Louis, it has looked like election day for months and all the signs say "Office Space For Lease". It keeps getting worse too. Green shoots or mustard seeds on tv seem so ridiculous when I drive across town. I'm thinking of making a you-tube...

    Martingale system in Trading

Adding risk control to a martingale strategy can work, but you aren't using true martingale anymore. Several of the market wizards talked about strategies they use to help them dodge the "big wipeout" that other posters warn about martingale trading. Here are some examples: * Larry Hite...

    Modeling Slippage

At Ed Seykota's website, he uses a very brutal slippage calculation. If you get a buy signal, your entry price is half-way between the open and the high of the following bar. If you get a sell signal, your entry price is half-way between the open and the low of the following bar.
