    New York is Dead

well said. I can't tell you how many times I've seen places in the city busy every day of the week and still suddenly go out of business. It happens all the time, as traffic is not an indication of actual profit.

Give me ONE rational explanation for Today's rally

By saying this market is unique and will be unlike any previous bear markets, aren't YOU also making a forecast? What is truely irritating about this thread is the number of people who said the bounce was obvious in advance. Funny, because I don't remember reading any of this BEFORE IT...

Wall St bonuses should go to ZERO

Completely disagree. The first part of the problem is that they aren't worth very much right now, and people are starting to realize this. Other posters have corrected stated that much of finance is middleman bullshit; this industry has thrived by ripping people off for decades. In almost...

USSA = United Socialist States of America

Not that it matters, but how does this make us any better off? It means our government is dumb and/or we as Taxpayers are getting shafted. I never invested in these shit companies because I thought they were shit companies. Now the government is making the investment for us. Awesome...

Pelosi eliminating 401k in lieu of government retirement?

Funny how this gets little media coverage, but instead we're forced to read about really important issues like how much Sarah Palin spent on plane tickets/dresses.

Cramer reduced to hyping dividend stocks now.

Does that 4% take into account companies such as failed startups, that generally have no dividends and will skew all non dividend paying stocks lower?

Cramer reduced to hyping dividend stocks now.

I agree, except its worse than a wash because you are forced to periodically pay taxes even if you are holding long term. I also find the whole dividend reinvestment theory equally pointless. If you want to keep the capital invested in the company, you might as well buy stock in a company...

    The Surf Report

The long-term problem right now is we outsourced the USEFUL jobs that create REAL economic growth. By useful I mean technology/manufacturing/engineering jobs. We are left with service sector garbage, and losing many of these as well. Too many finance/legal/marketing etc jobs that lack any...

    ET Official Bottom Watch Thread

Normally I would agree, but I can't see how this economy will grow after outsourcing a ton of technology/engineering/manufacturing jobs and assets. What we are left with are service bullshit jobs, like most in finance. I hate to see people lose their jobs but lets face it, a ton of people in...
