that helps, but i guess i might not have been clear on my initial question and for all the negativity its generated, ill apologize for that. i just wanted to know if i had to manually exercise the contract on expiration day, or if the broker would do it automatically, assuming the vertical...

oh! okay that makes sense. Do you have any suggestions on how I could have made that trade better? or something you'd have done different? So paying $0.50 to make $1. is the risk one to make one. The other thing that I wonder about is the sell on high vol and buy on low vol rules. If vol his...

no, I got annoyed that the answer I got was one that was assuming rather than helpful. Caring for someone's well being is to direct them in a way thats in line with what they are asking. Sure EVERYTHING can be arguably related, but put call parity doesn't answer my question of whether you...

my question is, how can you profit on a vertical call spread without having to exercise your options at expiration? For example, I have a BBRY trade on right now Long 4x 9 Call @$1.81 mar 28 Short4x 10 call @1.10 mar 28. Currently BBRY is trading at 10.35, which is above the short...

lets see, was my question answered? no.. is it assumed that i dont know the above? yes. all i was asking was for a step by step on how to exit a profitable vertical call debit spread. my current understanding is that you need to exercise the long and get assigned the short at expiration only...

its called being a decent human. if someone asks you for directions, are you going to tell them exactly where to go provided you know? or are you going to be a douchebag and tell them they should know because they came from that direction?

is it possible for people to not respond condescendingly and actually answer a question, rather than provide a comment that is not beneficial. my question is simple and i did look it up online. I just wanted to know if there is another way to carry out debit spreads other than having to...

For debit spreads, do you have to exercise the options i.e take stock for a time period to profit? or are you able to close them before hand for a profit?

According the the cboe site, the IV I'm using is provided by ivolatility. I still feel that credit spreads would be the most successful due to the ability to change your position to give you a credit. Yeah the loss is realized, but the net loss is still at 0 or positive.

are you just throwing a random vol number out there like 55%? isnt forecasting the vol equivalent to forecasting price action in the underlying and therefore just as difficult? so is the iv index on cboe the 52week?

hmm i never considered that. can you give me an example? i use the volatility optimizer or finder and look at the only IV value they have lol. I also look at trades by tastytrade and compare the IVs and usually they are generally the same. which hv do you use? how do you know which iv for which...

i almost blew out... because of the non 1std move. had naked strangle on bks last week 14/18 strikes the it closed just under 18 but i closed my positions before hand. managed to recover about 1/3 my loss. ive been doing 1 month long strangles too and have been good, but i realize the risk...

I sell naked premium too on the call side. Put side is cash secured. Anyone else finding it hard to sell 2 STD out? I'd like to start managing my portfolio so its selling bear call or bull put spreads month to month and vertical spreads that are 3-6 months in duration. I'm going to start...
