    Hedge funds

Friends & Family. They are the only ones who will trust you. Then, you have to build a track record. Large institutions won't even invest until you've been on their radar screen for 2-3 years. So, this is not a get rich quick scheme. You have to have great performance for a couple of years...

    Hedge funds

IMHO, The problem is not finding investors. The problem is finding a scalable strategy that churns out 15% a year regardless of market conditions, with low volatility and low drawdowns. Those are the characteristics institutional investors (the big money) are looking for. If you can find...

    Hedge funds

Some funds (503(c) funds??) allow up to 500 accredited investors...individuals w/ over $1MM or 200K/yr income for past two years...or institutions w/ $5 MM in assets. I think this is right...but I'm not sure...whereas other funds allow up to 100 (501(c)??)...can't remember the exact...

    Mechanical ES system

Because of the optimization...I fear this system may be too curve-fitted to perform well in the future. I like to see systems that still work well over time with symmetrical Entries/Exits. That's just my humble opinion. Good luck!

20% per year with as little risk/work as possible?

Why not turn your system on its head? Change the default positon on your system to long. If you do get a sell signal, go flat. It's essentially the same thing except 1.) you don't get the dividend income, but 2.) you get Section 1256 tax treatment which should more than make up for dividend...

    Trading Reits

Sounds like a good strategy QQQBall.

    Trading Reits

The only issue with treating REITS like any other company with good cash flow is...because they are required to pay out 90% of their earnings by law, they are prevented from reinvesting at a rate similar to a normal company. Thus, I see them more akin to a fixed-income instrument.

20% per year with as little risk/work as possible?

Actually, I found this while perusing for bond-trading ideas. I am a systems trader so my day is never "exciting"...all I do is take signals. Know of any bond-trading system ideas?

20% per year with as little risk/work as possible?

Runningbear, I really like your 90-10 idea. Are you currently doing that? If so, how long have you done that for and how has it panned out for you? MYD

    Trading Reits

bignatty, Don't forget to factor in the principal risk of the underlying in addition to your 8% (16%) dividend income. Right now REITS are probably peaked out...the time to buy them is on the other end of the interest rate cycle. So, if you want to lever-up and buy them for the income, be...

    hedge funds

marketsurfer, I actually felt like BofA treated us fairly well even though we only had $1mm. However, if I had to do it again, I would take your route and go institutional arm of retail too. 5 cents a shares is ridiculous. MYD

    hedge funds

Bank of America and ABN Amro Prime Brokerage are constantly holding free conferences on how to start a hedge fund. Generally, they will feature a few accountants, a few attorneys, and then they give you their prime brokerage bit (about how you can pay 5 cents a share comission...but look! They...

MichaelD, Will RadarScreen be included with TS7, or will there be an extra charge for this feature? Thanks, Mike D.

    TS is NOT Direct Access

I'm not a scalper -- I swing trade, so please factor that in...but I do use TS to trade futures. Basically you get Lind Waldock's order execution interface. It's bare bones. It is basically designed to simply take your order and give you account stats. So far, my fills have been virtually...

    Anyone actually trade mechanically?

Corso, Have you traded any of these strategies live? If so, what type of slippage did you get? I've just started trading some strategies live that were supposed to enter "next bar at Close Limit". What I found is that I may or may not get filled at that price. Now I'm just entering at...

    Chicago-based accountant recommendations?

Can anyone recommend a Chicago based accountant that meets the following: 1. Reasonably priced 2. Knowledgable about trader accounting (stocks, options & futures) 3. Responsive to clients Additionally, if you have used them in the past and don't mind sharing, can you estimate either...

Anyone have any input on how many ES they would take home overnight (I'm swing trading) per $10K in your account? May God bless everyone on this board!
