    Non 25k Trading Help????

You have a third option, trade futures. Have a look at the NQ, ES, and YM. No trading limits and you can short just as easily as long. More capital leverage, more risk, more profit potential. On top of that, once single stock futures come out, you can trade those too. There is a tax benefit...

Interactive Brokes Traders - Please vote

If I understand correctly, a bullet is a buy of a certain number of shares at a tick up from the current bid. The idea is that you want to short the stock, but you can't do that unless that stock is ticking up. When you do the small buy, it causes the tick up, at which time you can then enter...

    Are you ready for this....?

Go get a night job, and start slowly in trading. It takes a while to learn the ropes, and trying to do it under the pressure of needing to make a living on it is not a good position to be in. Just my humble opinion

    IB's Trailing Stop for FUTURES

I've used it a few times (On the NQ), seems to work like a charm. I think the rules are similar to nasdaq rules in that you have to have two bids at or below before the stop triggers. The details are fuzzy in my head, so double check on the IB site.

    YM, YJ (Dow E-Mini's) Anybody?

I have about 50 round trips under my belt in the YJ's, they have wide spreads but are tradeable (Especially on a 5 minute tick chart). The trick is to find your entry point, then place your opening trade about 5 to 10 points in your favor away from the current bid or ask (Depending on which way...

    Something very simplistic

I'm very curious to watch this system play out. If you can average 3 to 5 points a day, you will watch your profits sky rocket. On top of this, this type of system appears easily programmable (IB java interfaces for example). You could do this sort of thing on the NQ's as well. My question is...

    What do you trade?

I trade E-mini NQ's and ES's. I played around with the YJ's on the ACE, but to no avail. I trade these for 3 reasons: 1) Liquidity 2) Capital Leverage 3) Low transaction cost (Due in part to #2) I am willing to accept the greater risk that increased capital leverage offers. I would trade...

    Day Trading Aint Easy

I consider a firm profit to be a point or two, but I wait till the market is out a few more points than that to allow for some wiggle. I'm happy if I take home +3 for the day (NQ) and +1 for the ES. Ofcourse I want more, but I try not to put my stops too tight on a trade, for fear of getting...

    Day Trading Aint Easy

Here is an approach that I use that seems to work well. I wait till 9am CST (10 am EST) and then I look at the first half hour trading range. I place a stop/limit order a few points outside the top and bottom of this range (A buy and sell stop respectively) I then let the market decide where it...

    Closing my IB account

Seeing as how you generate 10,000 in commission, you must be a big player. Now, I've read that no matter who your broker is, you should always have a backup account. Do you have such an account. Ofcourse, this means splitting your trading capital, but it does hedge against the risk of one broker...

    Problems with IB stop orders?

Head on over to their chat boards and you will find that stop orders at IB are a known headache. I trade e-minis, and stop orders never seem to work for them. If you are trading a nasdaq stock, then you are running into the same type of problem that traders face on globex. IB is simulating the...

    Trading Signals

Yeah, that would be better :) My thinking on the 3 point stop was that I wanted to let the MACD be my main exit point after the +2 profit, and that the -3 was a just in case, but I think that having it upside down like that is definitely dangerous, so I've gone back to my roots

Yeah, I definitely feel the need to get back to the roots. Like you said earlier, tinkering can kill you.

    Trading Signals

Yeah, that's my fear. Lately, we've seen some great volatility. My thinking is to apply this on a longer range scale, using 5 minute intervals. I need to backtest, like you say. Thankfully, globex posts its Time and sales data for free :) I'm in the process of writing a Perl script that...

    Trading Signals

I risk 3 points, to give my self wiggle room. I have 3 exits. 1) 3 point loss 2) MACD crosses back across the MACD EMA 3) +2 points. Today, however, I did things a bit different. I got in early this morning when it started (ES) to turn up a bit, and held on till the MACD went back across the...

    Trading Signals

I was up by 1.75 for the day. I was up early by about 7 points, wasted that lead by 6.25 points, then got two .5 point gains. Not great, but ended the day positive. Can't complain

    Post Prop-Trader Life - Vol. 2

Why even bother getting a job. You are your own person. No boss to deal with, no office politics, no corporate scandal causing you to get laid off. Take it from someone in their late twenties looking to go from career to trader. You are in the right spot now. If its companionship and socializing...

    E-Mini box question...

You could long the future in one account, and short it in another account, to achieve your strategy. Nothing illegal with that as far as I can see.

    Trading Signals

I have been using MACD (12,26,7) on a minute by minute tick for the NQ and ES futures (Nasdaq-100 mini and the S&P 500 mini on the globex). So far (For the past week) I have been getting good point returns (Net +6 points a day). I wanted to get some feedback from others with a longer history of...
