Simulated orders with IB market data

That sounds like a good idea. In the past, I haven't bothered to even try to simulate limit orders. I'll definately be adding this to my toolkit for a quick-and-dirty limit order simulation.

    Exploiting Market Fears - article

It seems to me that a more likely reason for the volatility is that many of the big hedge funds (i.e. big speculators) that would normally be providing liquidity in this market to absorb the big moves are temporarily or permanently out of the market do to losses.

    Help executing an EOD system

I don't know about fidelity, but when downloading eod data from yahoo you will frequently not have the EOD price for a lot of stocks by 6:00 PST or so. With yahoo, it gets better the later in the day you download the data.

Considering day trading for a living

At least you aren't like most people on this board who ask that question, that have 10k, but still with 25k it's not likely that you could make enough money to live off of.

What makes day trading a resume killer?

rosy2, In your opinion, specifically what is it that causes independent electronic daytraders to fail?

Making $200-$400 a day (average), realistic goal for a new trader to grow into?

I'm in a very similar situation. Small Business owner. Business is good, but tougher than it used to be. I started thinking seriously about wanting to learn to trade and invest as an eventual replacement to business income, years ago. Trust me, it's a LOT tougher than you think, and 10k...

    Strong Trend Days

I find that as a "counter-trend" day-trader, the worse aspect of these big-trend days, is that I often actually trade worse than on normal days. Of course this especially sucks, because the big-trend days are when I most need to be at the top of my game, as they are so dangerous to my style...

No, that is not correct. You do not need to own shares to be short options.

Need historical data for analysis / system testing

I don't know how to get a list of all symbols that existed, but you can get historical index components, for the major indices at their relevant websites (i.e. the S&P site and the nasdaq sites), which is usually what you want anyways. The problem, though is I don't know of a free location to...

My backtested system consistently beats the S&P500

Who said anything about flawed? I'm sure the numbers in Bloomberg are basically correct. What I'm not so sure about is that the fundamental data listed for a particular date were actually knowable on that date, since fundamental data often gets revised after the fact.

My backtested system consistently beats the S&P500

You have to be careful when you use fundamental data for a backtest. A lot of the data gets revised after the fact, and the reported values in the database now, were unknowable at the time.

Have $25K.......Best way to begin learning to trade it

Start out by opening an account with a brokerage that has very low commissions, and that allows you to trade a variety of markets, such as Interactive Brokers. Start out making very small trades. Learn about various different styles of trading (from reading or what not), and start making...

    IB Secure Device

Will we be able to opt out on one account, while still using the security device for another account? For my main trading account, I definately want to use the token. A large amount of my net worth is in that account, and I access it from my laptop while on the road, so the token would be...

TWS Java Bloat or do you have any other ideas?

Glad this isn't only me! Automatic update loads every single day when I start any of my 3 PC's now, instead of every few days like it used to. This is really annoying, and has been going on for at least a month. Furthermore, it doesn't appear to actually be upgrading TWS. I had to manually...

    Simple automated program with ib.

I think IB limits you to like 50 or 100 data streams, so you may not be able to scan 200 stocks.

C# or J# for IB API?

Another choice is to just use the ActiveX control...I posted basic C# code demonstrating how to use the ActiveX control a while back: http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&postid=1057693#post1057693

canadian income trusts to be taxed

Damn, I was wondering why ENT was up so much after hours. I knew I could come here to this thread and find out what was going on. (I wish I had checked here before unloading it though...it's up another 6% from where I sold just a few minutes ago.)
