    Anyone trade Eurodollars?

my 2 cents; if you're going to play in euros then you should probably have the cash market up at all times (preferably CTD and OTRs) so you can actively follow the TED spreads. Burghardt's book will tell you how to do this. While you might not have the financial resources to trade TEDS...

    Significance of "preopen"?

the pre-open is still quite useful; alot of quant traders use the pre-open to game the open because towards the end of the pre-open session orders become locked in and can be gamed off the open in either the implied spread market or other outright markets. The pre-open is less useful as the...

    Advice for new trader

More liquidity in the fixed income than other markets look at open interest as a good proxy..... Get used to looking at the EUREX and LIFFE exchanges. Its a late night but pays well. There is enough action in the outrights for decent scalping and you can spread it off (into months or areas...

What kind of specific education background would lead to a career as a quant trader?

well if you are interested in learning more on quant trading....pick up a wilmott or preferably Taleb's dynamic hedging book and start reading....fixed income or energies is the more likely source of employment for quant trading as equities groups are already swollen and still cutting back.

    NYMEX vs NYBOT softs

they must be substitutable to be fungible. If you are long for instance ICE WTI crude contract and short NYMEX WTI Crude for 2 cents of edge until settlement you get 2 cents/bbl on cash and must deliver 1,000 barrels of crude per contract plus FOB at Cushing, OK. You HAVE a position...

Simplex Investments in Chicago? a logic test before joining a firm?

 These tests are not meant to be tricky but to assess your ability to handle stress, perform basic/essential mathematics, and have some logic. If you were to tell us or any other firm to take the test and do that; I doubt the job would be given offered. Additionally, we do...

    TED Spread at 2.00!!!!

Umm Don, a TED spread is a US Treasury against the Eurodollar future (http://www.cme.com/trading/prd/ir/eurodollar.html). Eurodollars represent dollar deposits at institutions outside the US.
