    Does Technical Trading Really Work?

That well sums it up. It's important to keep one's charts to where you have a signal or you don't. What you don't want are charts so complex that you can make a case to go long or go short. The next signal may or may not work but it must be clear.

    Does Technical Trading Really Work?

As a day trader, I use charts because I am not smart enough nor do I have the time to figure out the meaning of life every time I take a position.

Problem with trading 1 contract only

Then I suppose those of us who trade all in/all out should have Jack Schwager interview us for the next Market Wizards.

Problem with trading 1 contract only

I would have two suggestions: 1 If you have a viable trade plan...take your signals and ignore your P&L. 2 Don't fade a trend day.

Problem with trading 1 contract only

Yea and pay little heed to those who say you can't do this or you shouldn't do that. Rely on your own observations, devise and test a strategy and if it works it works. Every trade plan is different. The only arbiter is profitability.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

Eddie, I am not saying that if you continue that you will succeed...who knows. I am saying that it is a tough road and years is more common than months. I train Chinese martial arts and find it similar, there comes a time when the light comes on.

Problem with trading 1 contract only

I don't change it as it works over time and I like to keep things simple. My target is 10 ticks and my stop is never over 8 and averages around 6 1/2. I get about 30 signals a week. I have tried optimizing over the years but it always ends up more trouble that it is worth in trade management.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

Eddie, I didn't make any money in my first 5 years and the first two were brutal. I do not know anyone who trades for a living who has not paid some serious dues.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

I don't know if 16 years qualifies as "long term" but it works for me.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

The word is moot and while volatility has increased, trading remains much the same. If you spent as much time studying price action as posting nonsense, you might conceivably know this.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

It works on all timeframes but the lower you go, the more squirrely the price action. Scalping is a tough way to go.

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

You are correct, charts do not print exactly alike...but they rhyme. The art is the ability to read verse. I will very occasionally visit one of these forums for a laugh. Telling a professional technical trader that TA does't work is like telling an astronomer that there is no moon.

Problem with trading 1 contract only

I trade all in, all out with a target based on the statistical sweet spot of maximum favorable excursion data in my market (ES). As gains out number and are larger than losses, it works for me. No trader has the same exact trade plan, you have to find what works for you. As noted, it matters...

Why does anyone take technical analysis seriously?

TA works because it shows human behavior which does not change. Those of us who use it to make a living trading (not selling stuff) have little incentive to defend it.....believe what you will.

BAR BY BAR -- Al Brooks

I have known Al Brooks for years and he is a solid and highly profitable trader. You won't find him on chat boards as he does not find them to be a productive use of time. The book is highly detailed and will take some work to grasp his ideas but IMO it would be well worth the effort. The key...
