Isnt't the slow TWS "pre-startup" due to the "jts.jar" (java archive) decompression process ? I think that with some trick (which I do not remember) you could store that archive uncompressed on your harddisk.

They use SPX as symbol, when you use "Underlying Mode". Should be "SPH4", when you use "Symbol Mode".

I think that combination orders only work with ISE. Option must be listed on ISE, then you can select SMART (or ISE).

IB retail customers cannot trade options on ZB (ZN, ZF, ZT). Probably because of physical settlement for the underlying interest rate futures.

Of course you can trade from UK and Europe. But EurexUS is stupid enough to tell everyone and his dog, that you cannot trade and must wait 6 months for FSA approval or something like that.

Your limit orders for OYM will be shown immediately. Electronic markets (ISE, BOX, CBOE, PSE, ECBOT) do not have such "delays". Non-electronic markets (AMEX, PHLX) allow the MMs to hold your order for a certain amount of time. BTW, IB seem to have fixed the problem with OYM orders. :)
