    California predicts $1bn budget surplus

California has a much larger population than Texas (38 million vs 26 million) so it's not surprising that they create more jobs, especially when cherry-picking short time-frames. Look at per-capita job growth/loss by skill/wage level over the last ten years and you'll see a very different...

A friend of the family who's pretty well connected in DC political circles says there are a group of Democrats pushing hard for the FTT right now. It's time, once again, to send emails to your congressional representative and your state's Senators. Let them know that you're against the FTT...

Haha! Europeans puzzled at why Higher taxes=Less Revenue.

We went on vacation to Costa Rica two years ago. Internet connection was lousy and our rental car was broken into the first day we got there. The people are nice and the food was good, but it's not a place I would choose to live with children.

Haha! Europeans puzzled at why Higher taxes=Less Revenue.

Third world countries don't have infrastructure (modern roads, bridges, schools, utilities, internet, etc.) and many are unsafe. My wife and I are seriously considering a move out of the US, but it has be a place where our children will be safe and where they can get a good education. I don't...

One of my wife's sisters is a psychiatrist. She says that people who are extremely religious or extremly anti-religious usually suffer from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). She said they're easy to spot. They keep bringing up the same subject (religion or anti-religion) over and over again...

Tax thought..actually should go to the front page

I saw an analysis a while back that showed that if all personal deductions are are eliminated, the following rates will bring tax revenues to 20% of GDP. (Currently they're about 18%) 1) Tax all wages at 10% plus FICA taxes (no salary cap limit). 2) Tax all dividends and interest at 15%...

Republicans' ability to filibuster may be important both as a matter of FTT legislation and Treasurer confirmation. As usual, there's no shortage of hipocricy in Washington. ================== When Republicans tried this in 2005, then Senator Joe Biden spoke for Senate democrats when he...

Solar Maximum Is Here Again - Will This Be The Big One?

Kaku's book, "Parallel Worlds," addresses the big bang and why it may not be the beginning, but rather just another stage of the development of infinite multiple universes -- what's now called "M-Theory." If you're interested in non-academic books on Physics, I'd also recommend "Quantum...

american ignorance on how our tax system works

I didn't say we were "paying taxes close to payroll." I said, "The only business expense higher than taxes is payroll." In other words, if I rank the expenses of the businesses by category it looks something like this: 1) Payroll 2) Taxes 3) Rent etc. etc. In my trading...
