    big transactions in e-minis

If the ES is going through heavy volume, you can count on it that the ER2 will also be doing something similar (relative), likely more exaggerated, especially if is out of sync with something more thick, like ES.

    emini margin -intraday

I hope not. If you can't afford to play the margins @ $500, you can't afford to stomach a highly leveraged instrument on a rally or crash. Put another way, imagine you just made a killing on a highly leveraged rally move on 10 ER2 contracts. If the person on the other side can't afford to pay...

Any free charting software better than EclipseTrader?

I use paid software but I just wanted to note: I am pretty sure the Eclipse Trader project has been abandoned. Too bad, Eclipse is a great development platform. Multi-OS too.

Need push in right C++ direction

Good points. Obviously if you start on a lower-level language like C, you have a better understanding/appreciation of higher-level languages (wrt effort saved to produce similar results). By UNIX, many institutional platforms are run on SUN solaris, and recent trends include migrating to...

Need push in right C++ direction

C still has it purposes in niche industries like video games and embedded systems, but you really don't need to go that low level for business applications. C# does a fine job. If you are worried about performance, IP latency is more of an issue you should tackle first. C# learns from the...

    Ninja Trader and Equities

heh, I use NT, I think its one of the better platforms for independent algo traders, but for chart trading? I don't know what it is, I can't put my finger on it. I am crossing my fingers later versions will improve the charting in NT. Anyways, check this link for equity brokers that interface...

    Mac laptop + Dell monitor?

I know huh. The "Mac" displays use the same Samsung LCD's as the Dell displays. Apple has a nicer design and material, but its not worth 2-3x the price IMO. Also, the Dell displays aren't too bad looking.

    Mac laptop + Dell monitor?

Just make sure you get the correct adapter. After the macbooks came out, the mini-dvi/mini-vga adapters changed. I had to return mine to get an updated mini-dvi adapter.

    Algo Trading in prop firm

You can test it manually if possible. Otherwise you will need to code it. Tradestation is a good prototyping tool for basic systems. Eventually you will probably want to move to a platform with more robust language support. E.g., TS has no real public variable support, and event-driven...

    what's ur answer on this?

Before you left you may have wanted to ask them what they were looking for in a candidate. Your answers seem a quite broad, (good at numbers?) But those aren't the only factors to focus on during an interview. How is your interpersonal communication? How do you present yourself? What do you have...

    Tick Charts

tick charts sure do look smoother. But I prefer a time-fixed x-axis. Or minutes chart for visual, and tick chart for auto-execution.

    Clock Speed/ FSB/ Ram speed

Also, you may want to read this for an overview of the basic concept. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_multiplier tomshardware.com is the place you want to go if you want to maximize your value of your system. Smart guys when it comes to x86 hardware.

    Clock Speed/ FSB/ Ram speed

Your wasting your money if your purchasing anything above DDR2 800mhz even with todays top components (for now). The performance gains from DDR3 and any higher clock speeds are marginalized when price is involved. Also you should think of mhz in terms of speed, but that doesn't mean there...
