Hello, So, I started trading CL live this past week after trading sim for about 3 months. Here is what I discovered that has cause me more losses then i expected. 1. Many times I enter a stop losss stop market order of -15ticks, but after the trade noticed I took an -15 to -19 tick loss...

    The secret of succesful traders

Good response. Keeping it simple is what I have been trying to do lately. If I don't know something while I am trading, I simply do nothing. I write it down and discuss it with myself after the market close. I enjoy it.

Thank you Stymie and Handle123, Thankful for your response. I did not know that. Right now I am sim trading and my orders fill pretty nice. Are you telling me that if I always use a protection stop market order of -15 ticks from entry, there is a chance I can actually get stopped out at more...

Need Help Back/Forward Testing An IntraDay Strategy

Thanks Handle123, You have great experience in the markets. I trade the CL with 3 contracts. There are times when it just moves really fast. I stay out of trades at open bell and around news times. Have you experience any issues with Stop Market or Limit orders not getting filled and you...

Need Help Back/Forward Testing An IntraDay Strategy

Need Help Back/Forward Testing An IntraDay Strategy

Hello, I have some ideas on how I want to intraday trade CL and/or TF. I have only forward test this method the past 1-2 months during and after market hours with good success (decent weekly profits). I have good logic skills, but don't know the first step on testing software or programming. I...

    Scale in/out vs. all-in/all-out

Thanks for your response. That's a good idea to use Ninja Trader through market replay daily and their ATM strategy. I will give this some thoughts, cause forward testing , but ultimately I eventually need a simple way to back test my ideas. not sure where to start, but I will look.

Testing the ALL in and Scale Out or ALL Out Exit Stratgey

Thanks achiles28 I would like to sit on position and let it play out. I personally do not want to add positions. I want to enter all in and all out, or all out trail. This fits my personality and my time management because I also take trades while trying to work a 9 to 5 pm. So to take a trade...

Testing the ALL in and Scale Out or ALL Out Exit Stratgey

Thanks achilles, This is a good question. I enter on retraces, so I get stop out at breakeven, i will not reenter. I have been keeping data on stop market orders, and will test enter on retraces if stopped out on the stop market order.

    Scale in/out vs. all-in/all-out

Thanks Overnight, I manually trail like this. I enter, then wait for 20 ticks. then move stop in favor by 10 ticks from entry. Once market move another 10 ticks in favor I move another 10 ticks. I do this til break even. Out of about 40 trades, the most I got was 50 ticks. I honestly just...

    Scale in/out vs. all-in/all-out

Thank you for advice Overnight, I agree, the pre determined targets I have data to show leave profit on the table. I first believe in if I risk 20 ticks (stop loss), i need to set my target (profit) at 40 ticks for the trade to make sense for r:r greater then 1. So what I would like to do...
