50% stop loss on long options?

My exit points are determined by the underlying. I have targets for the underlying above and below the current price of the underlying at which I sell the option regardless of the price of the option at the time of sale. Joe.

is this the holy grail ?

Yes! One just has to recognize that what appears to be a random selection of numbers actually has a reason behind the selection. Good work!!! Joe.

    Covered Call Newbie Question

Not exactly. SPY may get to 110 and then fall. The call won't be exercised and whether you are better off or not depends on how much SPY pulls away from 110 compared to the premium collected. Joe.

Trading is a fools game - you can't win

+1 There is no one way to do just about anything and that includes trading. I agree that there is no better (but not the only) experience than a live trade. And I think that one can learn more from a losing trade than a winning one. Of course my last sentence doesn't apply to most on...

Does the fact that the word "poker" is part of your user name have anything to do with why you want to sell this annuity? Joe.

    Victor Niederhoffer in Vogue Magazine??

"In short, a combined sequence of events huge declines in individual Thai stocks, losses in the Thai currency and the closing of the U.S. stock market and extensive up moves in the prices of options the fund was short; all came together in one day, in a short and disastrous coincidence."...

    JeffZiegler and theOptionClub thoughts?

Those are pretty harsh words! :D Of course, it's true. % "wins" is meaningless without knowing the risk/reward. It is possible to lose money on a "system" that produces 85% "wins" but make money on a "system" that only has 30% "wins". It all depends on the risk/reward. Joe.

Have you ever got any early assignments?

Along with minimums for time value and activity, I want to make sure that there is a minimum number of contracts that have remained open. For the DITM strategy that I use, the lower the OI the greater the chance of my getting an early assignment. Joe.

Have you ever got any early assignments?

Yes, many times. I use a strategy with DITM options and will get early assignments from time to time. I try to avoid that by checking the OI but when the underlying moves against me, it is almost a certainty that I will be assigned early. The funny thing about this strategy is that while it...

    Open my eyes... (S. FL)

+1 I wish I could answer your question directly but I am more of an investor than a day-to-day trader. I hear what you are asking loud and clear but as you already pointed out, you will get all kinds of answers that either have their own agenda or well off the mark. What I can say is...

    45% world's wealth destroyed

This reminds me of a passage in a book (don't remember the title) I read many years ago. It asked the question: If someone bought a stock for $20, it went up to $50 and was sold on the way back down at $30, how much money was made? The book's answer was that money was not made but 40% was...

Is palin still a candidate for president?

I would like to think that most Republicans, no matter how much they might hate Democrats, would in no way shape or form vote for this woman. Is there any Democrat that could possibly run against her that would make you want to vote for Palin instead? Joe.

    2% rule revisted

Let me apologize in advance if this comes down to semantics. I don't always use the right terms as I comingle them from my "gambling" background but here is what I mean: As an example, I do option spreads where my stats (inclusive of commissions) are as follows: Win 2/3 @ 1.40 avg Lose...
