They say teaching is the best way to master your craft

I've known lots of guys over the years that are amazing traders and make great money, but I could never do what they do because of a whole host of personal and specific reasons. And most of them wouldn't do what I do because it doesn't suit them. We all do pretty well and it works out. For me...

They say teaching is the best way to master your craft

I feel like a mentor/coach/teacher should provide the tools and terminology and education about how everything works - maybe with some examples and a little bit of handholding, but that's where the value has to stop. I can't teach someone "how to trade" any more than I can find them a wife, and...

CME: Why Smart Money Trades Spreads

I feel like the deeper issue here may be lots of these new retailers blowing up. CME obviously wants more traders - as we all do - and they need to keep them in the game.

Bid/Ask not updating in Order Entry

I noticed another oddity with this issue today. I had a limit order sitting there and the market is moving but the prices in the order window were not. In the quote panel (where the same quote exists) the prices were moving - but still frozen in the order window. Then I grabbed the lower...

    People are so predictable

I had it all figured out today. At Noon and down 1100 on the Dow I was convinced we were either going down 3,000 today or we'd be positive - or perhaps somewhere in between. I got this.

PPT Rescues S&P From Worst-Ever Start To A Year; Rate-Hike Odds Tumble

Sounds like zerohedge may know something about that second shooter on the grassy knoll.

Bid/Ask not updating in Order Entry

I've noticed this happening with 981 as well. Oddly, I've only noticed it on limit orders I've had sitting out there. Others beside them keep moving and the quotes for my order stall. It's not often and not every day, but you need to be able to trust what you are seeing in front of you.

US borders closed to unvaccinated Canadian and Mexican truckers

That should help with this whole "supply chain" thing.

Any MLPs that can go up or stay same in rising interest rate environment?

I'm a fan of standing timber MLPs. Rates of return are fairly consistent and solid over the long haul.

Celebrities Sued by Investors in EthereumMax Tokens

If you're a person that makes financial decisions (especially in the highly speculative crypto world) based on ads from people like Mayweather and Kardashian, then perhaps your money has found a more appropriate home.

Nancy Pelosi's husband bought call options in these 5 stocks as 2021 came to a close

I don't deal in equities any more but it reminds me that I used to short everything that Paul Allen was long. I made a lot of money taking the other side of that guy's positions. He did well starting MSFT with Gates but 80% of the stuff he invested heavily in - turned to shit.

Editor’s Choice 2021: Jane Street & The Arbitrage Royal Family

I kept reading and waiting for the good parts... LOL.

Familiar with IB TWS settings ?

I probably shouldn't say anything, but version 9.81 is still letting me run it as of today. The wording of the IB communication seemed a bit different from the usual upgrade deadline - not sure if I'm reading too much into it - "discontinue operation of non-upgraded installs". And it was a...

Familiar with IB TWS settings ?

That sounds more like something that may have been done to resolve the security problem since it appeared suddenly - my guess is that 10.12 was only to patch 10.11 for the LOG4J issue. One area that was patched is the JNDI (Java Naming and Directory Interface) lookup functionality. That allows...

Familiar with IB TWS settings ?

Could it be a Java version/issue? I saw the memo last week about the forced upgrade to 10.12 and I haven't yet. I thought maybe they would lock me out this morning, but they didn't. I get the security issues but I need it to work.

    Thomas Hoenig, Fed Reserve Dissenter

Hah! That would be incredible if you are right about him not raising rates. I can't see a path where he doesn't raise, but what do I know.

    Thomas Hoenig, Fed Reserve Dissenter

I've never agreed with Hoenig's interpretations of the "allocative effect". IMO, the benefits to the poor of lower interest rates on the consumer end far outweigh the banks being flush with cash. The '79 crash was a great lesson for economists everywhere and the late 2000's reinforced that...

Using a stop loss on the underlying chart while trading options?

Having enough capital is certainly important, but for me it's about having positions in place (spreads, etc...) that aren't going to go nuts if we drop 400 on the S&P. I'm old enough to remember a few times when liquid options on ES/SP couldn't really be priced accurately during catastrophic...

Using a stop loss on the underlying chart while trading options?

I've evolved my option trading over the years to not use a SL. Too many times I was burned or it blew through the stop or moved hard and hit my stop and then came right back. I always look at what I have on and ask myself "what if we drop 400 on the S&P overnight or today" and "what if we move...

Is Market predicting Omicron final wave?

Some media are reporting that it's largely gone from South Africa, where it allegedly started. I guess the thinking is that since everyone is getting it now, it will move on quickly.
