    Desperation

Oh boy, where to start. #1 Stop trading immediately. Your chance of being successful at this point is close to zero. Your return over the last few years has been negative. Even if you had another $40K in the bank, would making 40K in the next year be enough??? Considering your negative...

Fund teams put faith in quantitative investing

Deep Blue beat Kasparov. If you think developing a trading system is harder than developing a chess computer capable of beating Kasparov, guess again :) Your average home based PC chess computer will beat the pants off of 99.9% of chess players in the world. Good luck competing with...

I only tade NAZ/NYSE stocks. currently. Can you post an EQ chart that has TIME has the X axis? So we can see the frequency of the trades day by day? The problem with this type of EQ chart is, that all those trades could have occured in a single month out of a 5 year time period.

I do that often. My summary results are loaded into a spreadsheet where I sort by total profit, %win, average profit per trade, max DD, etc,. I find the "juicy" area of the parameter sets. Then I reference those equity curves. I often do the reverse though, and start by eyeballing the EQ...

I think sharpe ratios, etc, are over rated. Just post a picture of the equity curve (by time) along with the max DD #. This will visually tell me more than any sharpe ratio or any other number can. This is all about understanding the "behavior" of your system.

I agree. 42 trades is not enough. I could get a profit factor and win ratio like that flipping coins with 42 trades. The lowest # I would use would be about 200 trades, and only if the profit factor and win rate was very very good. 1000 trades is solid to get some good stats if applied to...

    Value of Backtesting and Stops

If you do proper and rigorous testing of your strategy, then yes, the probability that it will work in a real market is very very high. The 99% figure is a guess and the exact figure is not proveable. But I think you get what I mean. 100% of the systems I have developed so far have been...

    Value of Backtesting and Stops

This is why I hate the term "backtest". I rather just say "simulation". When I say "backtest", I actually mean the entire suite of tests I use to validate a strategy, not strictly a simple backtest. So I agree with you, you gotta forward test, and do a lot more than that too.

Listen little kid, you obviously dont know crap about true 100% auto trading, or all those scray little problems you listed wouldnt be problems at all. My systems run live day in and day out, and dont have any issue with "real markets". (rolling eyes). I guess you just sucked at...

How's real estate market in your area?

Dont forget all the people who bought with 10 to 1 leverage, then when the value went up, borrowed against the "home equity" and spent their gains. Their losses could potentially make a 100% loss in Enron look like a complete joke.

How's real estate market in your area?

And I pointed out how incredibly stupid this moron is who has no concept of LEVERAGE. LOL. Lets see, typical SoCal couple puts 100K down on an 1.5 million dollar house. Sells it for a loss at $900,000. What was their percentage loss? Oh yeah, OVER, WAY OVER 100%. Guy has $100K in...

How's real estate market in your area?

The real estate bubble has a much larger possibility of effecting the ENTIRE ECONOMY in a way that Enron never could. Im speechless, that you cant see the bigger picture. Ive seen a lot of stupid assumptions on this board, but whats above there is probably the most idiotic example of...

    IB; Biggest Possible Improvement?

IBs charting and data both suck, but they are a nice execution platform. Therefore, I want an "execution only" version of their libararies, without all the fat extra charting code. I need a leaner, faster TWS without all the baggage, designed for auto traders who are making IB the most...

How's real estate market in your area?

Any real trader willing to pay this kind of premium in SoCal isnt much of a trader. The potential of a crash here could make Enron look like a joke. Houses dont crash like stocks? No, they take longer, but look at japan, where some homes lost 80-90% of their value over 10 years. Dont...

    Value of Backtesting and Stops

When someone knows they are beat, and cant defend their position, he often just runs away like a child :D Actually, youre wrong, he only had 1 million in the trust. So yeah, he didnt exactly die broke, he only lost the majority of his fortune. But more importantly, you didnt bother to...
