IB Best Execution for trading QQQs and SPYs

I use Isld exclusively for the Q's. Why mess around? nyse or amex may be a couple of cents better but those times you get hung up negate any price advantage.

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

AAAinthe beltway, I think they don't trade them because they are able to do better than random entry. Given the choice I would opt for better, too.:)

    multi-monitor vs wide screen

I use 4 monitors on one computer and two on the other using the cheapest video cards and 17" monitors I could buy. I've never had a problem with them. It never made sense to me to spend a lot of money on monitors to display charts. I have another setup for video work and it has the best money...

I think a lot people dont want to believe that random entry works because it makes it that much harder to explain their losses. You should research the matter and find out for yourself because it has huge implications. If it's true, it should cause you to shift your focus from entry to money...

West Coast vs East Coast trading

One thing to definitely consider: are you a "morning person"? Market opens 6am out there. Allow an hour or two to get ready. If you have a hard time getting out of bed you may want to reconsider.

    This explains a lot.....

On LBR's chat site this morning re: Steenbarger's study of traders, "Accomplished traders are not necessarily well-balanced, likable human beings. Indeed because of their intense focus on their work and their competitiveness these traders can come across as abrasive and self-absorbed. Nor are...

    Helpful Hint...

Just trying to help:D . If you've never been caught in an updraft or downdraft by a suprise number at 10:00 then your a better man than I. I always check to see what numbers are coming out but many times I'll be caught up in a trade and forget what time it is.

rtharp I forgot to put Magna's name on the post prior to your last one. Thats who it was addressed to. I just finished your father's book. Quite interesting. I am especially interested in random entry. A reference here to that is what made me buy the book. The fact that a random entry system...

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

This is your monetary risk, not your actual risk. The only way to know your actual risk is to have some idea of how many times, in this situation, you can expect to hit your target and how many times you'll hit your stop. For example, you short a top with a stop .10 above the high and support...

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

. How do you calculate risk/reward? There are actually two calculations. The ratio you are referring to is the money ratio and is only half the equation. There is the money ratio and there is the risk ratio and there is the relationship between the two which is the actual risk/reward ratio. In...

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

I wasnt going to carry it any further but I think I see where we are bumping heads. My statement about 20% winners was in your reply to only hitting your target 20% of the time. If you are only hitting your target 20% of the time, then your analysis is flawed. I stand by that. I did not mean...

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

"Since reward/risk is determined before you enter the trade you could easily select a multitude of trades that appear to you (depending on what you base your targets and stops on) to have excellent R/R ratios. Yet the trades fail a good portion of the time because your targets aren't hit before...

what's the biggest difference between profitable and...

If you can find and enter trades with a 3 to 1 risk/reward ratio, you cannot lose over the long run. I absolutely agree that you must have a method with a positive expectency. Its just my opinion that the first step in that method is determining risk and reward. If your only picking 20% winners...
