    Why every country stores gold?

That sounds like a fun project. I bet the fumes and waste products would be good on my vegetable garden. Those old gold tailings in the watershed of western towns are a real health blessing for people into heavy metal toxicity.

    Why every country stores gold?

I love this. Murray must have lived several thousand years ago when people still carried stuff around with them to the market. Hitch up the ox to the cart, load it with gold, wheat, cow dung or whatever and then journey 5 days to the market town to buy some goats. Then the Chinese invented paper...

    Why every country stores gold?

Yep you got to love those Cyber-Currencies. They are so useful especially when $300 million worth gets lost in a folder on your hard drive like at Mt. Grox. I hear they are renaming it ButtCoin for obvious reasons.

how to protect trading strategies for a colocated server

I have no idea who Dr. Druz is or what he is a doctor of (History, Latin?) but in my actual expereince this is not true, at least for my systems which are based on neural network models. Perhaps he was speaking about those old fashioned systems based on things like If RSI > .8 and Close < MA14...

    Slow High Frequency Trading

Profit is always a function of ability to predict future dynamics, the acccuracy of such predictions, realized and theoritical risk, capital, leverage and opportunity regardless of time granularity. The HFT firms I know have an annual return on capital < 150% which is pretty modest.....perhaps...

    Slow High Frequency Trading

My thought was to have each server doing one thing only. For 60 min bars the file trasfer time wasn't a factor but as you note now it becomes one.....live, learn, and modify!

    Slow High Frequency Trading

Winston, Thanks for the insights. My current trading set up uses three machines to trade: 1) Price Server: Acquires price data, reformats, adds mathematical attributes and save as a input to the modeling process. 2) Model Server: Reads prices once per bar cycle (currently either 30...

    Slow High Frequency Trading

Can anyone offer any suggestions on getting into HFT where instead of trading on ticks in the sub second range one is trading a time window of 10 to 60 second bars? The max trade length is 1 bar (10, 30, 60 seconds). This would be very slow by industry standards. Topics I'd welcome a...
