    simple plan

I think this is the best advice a new trader can receive. If you make money it is easy to increase size. When you lose money it won't devastate your account like a $30,000 position would.

Trading while trying to lose weight on Atkins

You need to drink a LOT of WATER with the Atkins diet. It has worked wonders for my wife who has tried low-fat etc. for years. But, you have to drink A LOT OF WATER or you will get head aches etc.

It looks like they are very biased towards science and not business.

    Importing quote data into Excel

I use a DDE link from eSignal to run a worksheet for equities, I suppose it would work for futures too, but I don't subscribe to their futures feed. I also use Interactive Brokers' feed will to run an excel worksheet.

Has anyone tried this option strategy?...

I think using naked puts is a good strategy IF you definitely want a stock at or below a given price and you will be holding the position for a while. If you are going to buy a stock at a given price and not higher, all this strategy does is lower your cost. You will miss some good runs when...

Esignal ain't what it's cracked up to be

I haven't been all that impressed with eSignal either. I switched to them when QQL went out of business. I just have their basic real time package, and I have had some issues with their overlay charts that have never been resolved. Now they are upping my monthly fee. I mostly use it for...

    On open orders?

If you decide to use regular market orders, be sure to route to NYSE or you might get a fill you really don't want via an ECN. I would use limit orders.

Lescor and Avalanche, Thanks for the very informative replies. That helps me understand what is going on, and I really appreciate it.

    Expe/room

Sorry to upset you HOMER, after doing some searching, I realized that they were being purchased, but not all companies that are purchased by another (look how many companies Warren Buffet owns) trade identically. What I read didn't clarify that they would be merged into one, but I assumed that...

    Expe/room

Thanks for the response. These four - USAI EXPE ROOM TREE - stocks are trading so closely (almost identical on a percentage basis) it makes me think that they are going to be merged into one. Does anyone know if this might be the case?

    Expe/room

Can someone tell me why EXPE and ROOM are tracking each other? It looks like they are both owned/controlled by the same guy. Are they merging? Thanks for any help.

    sec reviewing decimalization!

I posted on the other thread, but pennies are much better for me. Five years ago, the MMs had a much easier time raping traders in my opinion. Decimals and ECN's are the best thing that ever happened to the market (unless you are a MM or just scalp the spread).

    Review of Decimals by SEC

I much prefer pennies. I use to hate paying a quarter to get in and a quarter to get out. The stock would have to move .50 my way before I could even break even - although back then I would have still had $30 in commissions to cover. Decimals and ECN's are the best thing that ever happened...

    Trading SMH

I am considering trading SMH, and I was hoping someone could give me some advice on what to expect. How do fills compare to QQQ? If I do begin trading it, immediate fills will be important. Are market orders relatively safe, or do I need to stick with limit orders? How is the liquidity, can...

Reduce the size of the trades until the fear is gone then gradually increase again as profit and confidence increase.

    10:10 Spike?

You are probably right. I am half short and half long all the time because I have given up trying to understand some of this stuff. It just amazes me how the market continually over-reacts. I guess I should never underestimate how history repeats itself - human nature never changes much I guess.
