Looks like my powerboost went away. For more then a year it measured 18 mbps from home to Chicago & New York. I have noticed slower downloads over the past couple months, and with the economy doing what it's doing, it would not surprise me to see Comcast slowing things down. It's still the...

Faster Processor or Faster Video Card?

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 (3.00GHz/1333MHz/2X4MB L2) and Dual 256MB PCIe x16 nVidia NVS 290, Dual Monitor DVI Capable ...is my advice. I run the QX6850 and if I bought GPU's today I would buy the NVS cards.

    econimical dual monitor video cards

I have no interest in Nvidia and to the best of my knowledge and belief, neither does gnome. When I needed to know what cards to use, I was told to come here and find gnome as he is the expert on gpu's for trading and I was sold in the quadro card. That's how I came across this venue and I enjoy...

Anyone living & trading from an RV?

I did it last summer, drove an RV from south Florida to Grand Canyon (south rim in AZ) then on to Las Vegas, spending a month in each place, with a laptop and wireless broadband. In an urban area it works seemlessly. You can literally drive down the highway and trade, use e-mail, etc. You...

    Which Computor UPS to buy?

I live in hurricane alley as well as the severe thunderstorm capital of the world, so what you hear from me may not be necessary for you, but here's what I have and why, and I never miss a tick: 60 amps 120vac (3x20 amp circuits) of power behind my trading desk. One circuit is dedicated...

    Backing up a computer

The disc can't walk and chew gum at the same time. If you only have one disc, then that's all you have to work with and you can have Page File, but it's not going to have the performance otherwise if you had 2 hdd's.

    Backing up a computer

My OS and all program files are on my C:/ drive. If your C:/ drive is 50gb, you will very likely never fill it as long as you keep storage off that drive. All of my storage is on my D:/ drive. This has music, videos, pics, docs, everything anyone would save to a local disc. Going on 8 years...

It's Official: Microsoft Vista Sucks. Just ask Microsoft Execs.

Definitely agree on the "form follows function" as they say in architecture (of buildings). I advise the grandparents and non-power users who want e-mail and google to buy the $299 dell special. But for engineers, traders, etc. I honestly do not know of a company that makes a decent system at a...

Always always always in any transaction where you are the buyer, remember the money is in your pocket (or account or custody of some sort) and you are in complete control. Do not hesitate to say repeatedly "well that would be a deal breaker. I can't have that." and see how fast they change their...

re charging more for xp then for vista when vista is "standard" on the product they are selling, the first rule of business 101 - How much do you charge for what you are selling? Answer As much as you can get. If they can get $50 out of you, they're going to. If they thought they could get...

It's Official: Microsoft Vista Sucks. Just ask Microsoft Execs.

Question: What's the difference between doing all that work (the slipstream) and just making an iso of my C:/ drive as it exists today? It seems to me that the drive as it exists today would serve me better because it has so many more programs on it that I will want if it becomes necessary...

I used newegg to get my parts. I had priced out the system I wanted (a DDR3 1333fsb system with Intel QX6850 the day that cpu came out) and the price was around $10k from the major cpu manufacturers (Dell still does not sell DDR3 systems). I spent $3,500 and today coulld build that system again...
