    Swing Trader Stops

Yeah I understand where you are coming from. I usually put in my orders at night, so I already know what todays volume was. Then again if you are looking for setups on daily charts then trying to time entries on intra-day charts, that might be part of the problem. Try placing your order the...

    Swing Trader Stops

First you want to look at the sell off from the last high. The last sell off high was $20.88. You are getting in at $16.50 so your estimated profit potential is $4.38. Next you find your initial stop loss point. in this case is was just below the tail of the candle 5 days before your entry...

    Swing Trader Stops

Ok I re-read everything you posted and it seems you are using trailing stops and not a straight stop loss. In this trade that should about a $3 to $3.30 trailing stop (16.50 entry point - 13.50ish initial stop) . So on the candle where it opened around $19 and had the dipped down to $18 your...

    Swing Trader Stops

Here is how I would have traded this: You got in at a good spot, between the 2 entry arrows I added. These arrows represent the aggressive entry (bottom arrow) and a more conservative entry (upper arrow). The current swing low is about $14.30ish made by the tail of the hammer like candle...

    Swing Trader Stops

On a swing trade your stop should be just below the PRIOR swing low. On the chart you linked, what date and price did you get in at?

Who Are These People Who Buy at the Top?

Had I even been looking at BSC I would have been out of it back when it crossed under it's daily 200 SMA on 5/15/07. If I was silly enough to stay in after that I would have for sure been out by the time it retested it's 200 SMA as resistance on 6/15/07. Any long term traders who thought they...

Which brokers allow retail traders to trade from the broker's office?

I am not sure where you live but unless you live in NYC or Chicago or are willing to move your options are going to be limited. If you just want some company though, you might be better off starting a local "trading club". Rent out some space, get an internet connection and computers and...

Should you focus on one stock?

Actually my prior comment pertains to swing and position trading. If you plan on day trading then yeah really 1 stock that typically has good intra day movement is all you need.

Should you focus on one stock?

If you are going to trade equities I would pick 2 to 4 stocks and learn them inside and out. How do you pick them? You want at least one that in a bull market has been out performing the broad market. This in theory creates more upside potential for your longs. You also want at least one that...

Confused on how open interest works

OI is the number of open contracts period. There is no way in the world, for what amounts to a market indicator, to know when a person plans on closing the contract in advance. Like I said above: If the trade results in a new contract being created (both parties are trading to enter a...

Confused on how open interest works

Yes someone has to be bold enough to make the first move but if they do and no one else follows they might very well get stuck in a position they can't get out of. I just used those numbers for demonstration purposes.

Confused on how open interest works

If no one is willing to take the other side of any trade, then nothing gets bought or sold. I am dead serious about the 10%. If you have 10 contracts and the total open interest is 40 contracts then you ARE 25% of the market. If you decide to liquidate your position and drop 25% of the market...

Bernanke says Fed did not 'bail out' Bear Stearns

Actually the Fed didn't technically bail out BSC. JPMorgan bought BSC and the Fed facilitated the deal by giving JPMorgan 29bil in exchange for 30bil in assets JPMorgan got from buying BSC. Had BSC been "bailed out" they would not now be a subsidiary of JPMorgan.

Confused on how open interest works

The short answer is it depends. The long answer is if you buy a contract from someone that is selling one to enter a position AND you are buying to enter a position then yes it goes up by one. If you buy from someone that had already bought and is closing a position and you are opening a...

Bernanke says Fed did not 'bail out' Bear Stearns

Question: Answer: The cash given to JPM was taxpayer money, but the Fed can claim not to have bailed them out b/c they are supposedly profiting 1b in the way of assets. The issue is the assets they received are trash.

    thinkorswim charting?

You are correct. The platform was designed from the ground up as an option trading platform. The ability to trade futures was added later in the life cycle at customer request. It is however as you mentioned one of the most stable platforms around.
